A Story I Tell My Daughters
Let me give you a picture. Mother hung the wash to dry on the clotheslines. We lived on a corner lot, so Father installed the clothesline in an L shape. The sheets and towels faced the streets, behind were the pants and shirts, on the third line were the unmentionables, girly stuff. No real concern existed with the men's stuff, who cared, right?
As teens in junior high this boy came to visit on wash day. He liked watching me hang the clothes, and would not stand back when I hung our unmentionables. Coming forward he wanted me to show him my panties and bras. A very curious boy. Mother told me, really us girls, a boy looking at your panties on the line was far better than pulling your panties off in the bedroom.
We rode the bus to school. Junior High did not share the bus with elementary. My sisters were still in lower school so I had to ride without them in the seventh grade. That night Mother told Father at the dinner table, two boys older, two girls younger than me. "That boy, is he the curious fellow? He's called every friend by now, a girl's panties are the prize of prizes when your in tenth grade."
I held my head high the next day at school, my girl friends asked me over and over "did you really?"
