Moms Portfolio
I recently went through some of my old photography files and happened upon photos that I took of my mom when I was a sophomore in college working on a visual arts degree. I was home on spring break and had borrowed a digital SLR and had hooked it up to a new laptop.
One evening when my mom came home, I was experimenting with some backlit, black and white and sepia shots of still life. She was curious and I showed her how a digital photo downloaded to a laptop could be modified with various effects, etc. I had been shooting a potted plant on a tall stool in front of the patio doors. I asked her to sit on the stool and let me shoot 2-3 shots. After she saw her pictures, I showed her how they could be modified, light to dark , soft focus or the sepia effect I was working on. She was impressed and thought it was cool.
That Saturday, we went to the beach and hung out at around a Tiki Bar and had a few drinks between swimming and sunbathing. When we got home, mom mixed a drink and before she changed her clothes, I asked her if she'd posed for a few photos. She went and sat on the tall stool again and I shot a few pics and asked her if she turn her back and remove her top. I explained the beauty of the female form when shot in black and white. At first she was reluctant, but after some encouragement she agreed after I told her how important this was to my studies. I shot a few pics of her with her back to me and then suggested she turn sideways giving me a slight profile. At first she covered her breasts, but after more encouragement telling her how great she looked , she relented and I took a couple of great profile shots of her posing in a topless pose.
I told her I'd download the photos to the laptop and show them to her after dinner. After dinner, I showed her the finished shots and how I had used various digital effects to where they were less graphic, but somewhat arty. She loved the photos and complimented me on my skills.
Over the course of the next few evenings, after a few drinks Mom agreed to pose more as I experimented with the software on the laptop. We'd always start with her topless, but eventually she got down to total nudity with a little more encouragement.. She was 42 at the time, tall, big mature boobs with maybe a few extra pounds and she really got into posing . She always said that since they were not all that graphic and edited and just between us ,it was cool. She insisted I delete everything before I went back to school.
She even got the crazy idea that I should pose for her. Under the circumstances, what else could I do but agree. However, I didn't delete anything, I have a nice portfolio of mom and I posing, both edited and raw shots. It brings back great memories now that she has passed away.
