I am 18 years old and I hate not having any control. throughout my life I have been stuck in a pattern involving a physically bigger man than I and being more or less pushed around by him. First it was my father and than it was my stepfather once I moved out of my dad's to avoid his controlling and completely insane wife. My gadgets and games have been taken from me and I have to ask to use them as if they were the family's property and I am just borrowing them. I cannot be informal most of the time, I have to follow arbitrary and moronic rules (not being allowed To wear headphones inside, not turning the TV off when no one is watching/listening to it, turning lights off whenever they are turned on, despite the fact that there is enough natural light coming through the blinds, etc.) I have begun applying for jobs left and right so I could save money to rent my own place and finally have some control over my surroundings. My stepfather berates me and chides me for every little thing I do even if it is something I enjoy doing and has no real harm to anything, such as me randomly dancing in the hall. He corrects me on how I pronounce FAFSA for crying out loud! He doesn't let me speak my mind about things and looks down on practically every decision I make. He accuses me of being mean to my brother even though I just don't give or show a lot of affection to anybody. My mother is not as bad but can be quite overbearing when it comes to a lot of things. She gets pissed off over the smallest things and tries to force her own damn insecurities on me whenever I do or say I'll do something that she wouldn't (my choice of prom tux, why I'm not going with anybody to prom, why I don't ever pay attention to what my friends and classmates say or do, why I don't check Facebook or even care about gossip or current events, the list goes on and on). My little brother gets away with a lot more on account of him being only four years old. I have to accommodate everything I do just so he can watch or whatever and he's practically the real owner of my ps2 games (I can't even play them but he gets to.) Don't get me wrong, I love those three guys to death (unlike my father and his wife) but I hate how they make me feel powerless.
