This is my story.

I am a Christian who fell into sexual sin. I did not do anything physically with another person, but I looked at a whole lot of porn.

It tore me up inside.

I was breaking but I got addicted and couldn't stop.

I was rationalizing thinking, "They're cartoons anyway. They aren't real people. It's probably okay."

That was ... till I learned how realistic the drawings were.

I had happened to see real people porn for a brief moment. That got rid of my justifications.

But I still couldn't let go. It was really difficult. Even just this month, I had problems with it.

But I am getting better now.

To any of you there, who is having problems with porn or any other sexual sin ... or any kind of sin at all, let me encourage you to give it up to God. Only He can truly help you.

I've tried gaming as a substitute to porn. It really doesn't work. I'm just replacing one for another. I'm not curing the problem.

Please, God is the only One who can heal you.

And if any of you are wondering ... No, I did not read any smutty story on this site. I went on this site just to post this. I thought if I went to a site that people who had problems with this frequented, I'd be able to reach a lot.

Here's an interesting video I just watched. You might find it interesting.

Whether or not you are a Christian, and you have a problem with this, and you want to get rid of it ... I'll tell you now, you can't do it by simply substituting one for another.

You gotta find your Focus (with a capital F). What your Focus is, is what you build your life around. It will determine what you do, how you act, how you react ... It is basically what you believe in. You could say it's the meaning of your life. If you're a postmodernist, and you say life has no meaning, you're wrong. Life does have meaning. If you're one of those people who say life's meaning is the search for a meaning, you're wrong again. Because whether you acknowledge it or not, no matter what you say you believe, there is something or someone that matters a whole lot to you and that may well be what you're focusing your life on, whether you're aware of it or not.

Some steps to overcoming addiction of any sort:
1) Acknowledge you are addicted.
2) Seek help from a professional or from people you are close to.
3) Talk about it with those people. The more the merrier.
4) Be accountable to them. Tell them when you're recovering, and when you've taken the plunge into the addiction again. They're willing to help.
5) Help yourself. You can't rely on others to solve your problem for you, because addiction is an internal problem. They can help you with the external stimuli, but you gotta get to the root.
6) Tackle the problem day by day. Do not focus on the long term goal of being free from it. Do it day by day, so you will better be able to overcome it. And so when the number of days you've gone without the addiction has accumulated, you can look back and be encouraged. (This is in contrast to always looking forward and thinking that it'll be a while till you're truly free from the addiction.)
7) If you're problem is sexual addiction, go cold turkey. I've tried to lessen watching porn each day till I just don't look at it anymore ... but it doesn't work. Porn and other sexual problem aren't like smoking. IT HAS TO BE COLD TURKEY.
8) You may even consider joining a support group.

If you are religious or spiritual
9) Commit to a Higher Power.

Thank you for reading. Hope you find this helpful. God bless you.

As much as I support your intent here, and as sensible as your strategies to overcome addiction may be, I can't let your religious perspective on the subject go without comment. Firstly, I don't believe in "sin" as described by any religion. Too often in different religions, one man's sin is another man's duty, so I see "sin" as defined by a personal moral standard. If you're a Christian, then your definition of sin is influence by your Christian beliefs. Note that I said "influenced" rather than "dictated," because let's face it, all Christian struggle with living a life of grace. We can justify our actions however we choose, but nobody's living a perfect life. So to me, this translates to "sin," in it's religious sense, being complete bullshit. And if that's bullshit, then it's all bullshit! People need to seek answers from within themselves, or perhaps with some help and encouragement from other people (who are real). Deluding yourself into thinking Jesus is going to make you strong is...well, deluding yourself. Believe me, I'm not trying to squash your good intentions here. I do believe that porn can be addictive, and that obsessions of almost any kind can bring potential harm people's lives. But none of that has anything to do with any God.

Thanks for this writing. I was about to read some stories of cheating on this site. To ease the pain of what has happened with my wife and how she cheated on me. What was so difficult is at a young age she was sexually abused by a older boyfriend who involved her in gangbangs, that was with men and women. Needless to say lust brought her back to this man and I found out. So instead To stop the hurt I ignorantly used it as a turn on. We are not no longer together but I have used her experiences as a means to get off. What makes me upset is now this has effected me and given desires to something dysfunctional. But your video has helped me and I wanted to say thanks! God Bless you and I am no longer gonna let someone else's nightmare be my reality
