Now, even Mr Webster has changed his definition of nigger. Shame. He says nigger is a member of any dark skinned race. Taken to be offensive.
Let me state, I was born and raised in the south, North Carolina, and some of my best friends and playmates were black, negroes. Of course at the time they did have their own section of town to live in and had their own schools. Times have changed. But the old definition of nigger was, TRASH. In other words, a white person could be called a nigger if he lived in trash, filth, dressed and talked like filth.
It irritates me to hear people use that word. Hate of the negro wasn't in the south, for example, Chicago is the place that paid and coaxed the first black to go to Mississippi and enroll in the University. Then they try to blame the south.
I served in the military and had many black friends. I'll never forget this one friend disliked being called a "Colored Man". He would ask, "What color?"
Now, how many of you recall where we whites got the name "Honky?" As the saying goes, back during slavery the negroes opened whore houses to supplement their below average income. The white man, to embarrasses to go inside, would drive up and honk his horn for the prostitutes to come out. That's were we got the name HONKY and you can quote me. LOL.

I too was in the military for a couple of decades.
