When I was in middle school and first got my period, I was embarrassed to use actual menstruation products in public bathrooms, because I didn't want others to hear the ripping sound and realize I had my period. So, I used rolled up toilet paper, the messiest and most disgusting means possible. I cannot fathom why this meant so much to me at the time, but I really didn't have a whole lot else going on at age 13.
