I am a 54 year old slim/fit male that just a few years ago admitted to myself that I am gay. No longer interested in women and only want sex with men. The problem I am having is I want to come out fully but with my line of work it could cause a major problem (that's the biggest problem) I also live in between a couple small towns and neither town are very open minded, between both towns the population would be around 8000 people so there are no places to go that are gay friendly and it is very hard to even find other gays or bi males for that matter.
I have been trying to come out a little at a time. I have been wearing rainbow colored belts and I have a rainbow colored parachute bracelet I wear when not at work. I just bought some new snickers for this spring/summer that are rainbow colored with pink shoe laces. The only thing that bothers me is the haters that are in this redneck area.
My family is another problem as far as my brothers go and my 2 girls. They do not know and as for my sister I think she might have an idea but has never said anything and I don't know if she would. On the other had her daughter was married and after her divorce she turned gay and lives with her girlfriend and it seems the whole family is fine with it so I have mixed feelings about the family knowing I am gay.
I hate that I can not come out totally until I retire in a few years. Work is the biggest reason I have not come out. It is not because of co-workers but because of it could bring up law suits from others and cause issues at work. I do not make advances on others or anything like that but with the environment that my work has. When I finally admitted I was gay to myself I felt like a major weight was lifted off my shoulders but I still have another weight hanging over me that I want to tell everyone I am gay but just can't at this point and time. It sucks ( and not in a good way LOL...) not being able to.

I am a similar age to you and coming out is very hard no matter what your age is, I have reached the same point as you but I have figured out that after years of hiding the true me it is hard to stop hiding it has become second nature so it might take a little longer to unlearn everything that took years to learn i .e. hiding my true self, I have known I am gay for years but afraid to show it openly I wish I could but I'll have to wait until I am truly ready.
