Hi, I am 28. Since college I have been with this one guy and I suppose that even then we both knew (everybody knew) that we would end up together. We both come from large families, and we have talked off and on about how many, will four be enough, or maybe six or seven. The thing is I never really saw myself going through all those pregnancies. The other thing that has gotten in the way is work. My mother never worked outside the home, so she had her kids starting at 19, and my mother-in-law also never worked outside the home, so making family was central to their lives. I started to get pregnant several times, but chickened out.

Then one day, two years ago, my best friend growing up and I were watching TV and we started to watch Sister Wives. We really got into it. We kidded around that we could definitely do that. At that time she was totally unattached, and it seemed like a great fantasy, and we started to behave like that, both of us being wives to my boyfriend. One day I told him he just needed to be a man and make her a real wife, not just a pretend wife. Just do it.

well he did it, I waited in the living room for her to come out and let me know how it went. She said it was ok, and she supposed that she could let him get her pregnant and she could be a wife. But no spark. So the next thing was for her to get used to being with him, sleeping with him and living with him. All this worked out ok, but still no spark. We thought everything was lost and all the time we were getting older. We decided to get pregnant anyway.

Then one fine day, and it was a fine day, out brother-in-law, usually the wise ass, told us that as there was now same sex marriage in our state, why we two didn't get married. That way we would protect out future kids, and the household would belong to us, instead of one of being married to him and the other one having to accept a lesser position legally.

So, on my 27th birthday, we got married to each other. We did the whole white dress and cake and everything. I am sure that many people put two and two together and figured out that we were gay. What they didn't know, is that on our wedding night, we crawled in bed with a man, with zero protection fully committed to getting pregnant, far from being gay.

The next morning, as we lay in bed, I didn't need to ask her if she was ok. One look at her and I knew we were going to be together for the rest of our lives. We are not gay, but when you are in bed with someone you just promised yourself to for the rest of your life, it opens a door that wasn't there before. We are sister wives. We had agreed to get pregnant and we did and on our one year anniversary we celebrated with our new family. We may be getting started late, but we will catch up.

This has been the best year of my life.
