Straight Male / 45
My mother in law had been with a man for the last 20 years or so until he passed 1 1/2 years ago. At first I felt sorry for her butore recently nor souch at all. I know there is a grieving period and realize one will most likely never get over the loss of a loved one.
During this time she has continued working half days at a school as a lunch lady. When she arrives at home she immediately calls my wife to see what she is doing. Well we run a business from home and are very busy so she is being disruptive more than anything. I have tried dropping hints to her but they seem to bounce off her without so much as an acknowledgement. I've talked to my wife about it but she feels obligated to talk to her and even at times leave with her to run errands.
To make matters worse she and her brother have rented the condo next door to us so we see them all the time. I end up cooking for the 4 of us and take great pride in it so it's not like we're eating sandwiches. The MIL will offer to cook but when she does it some frozen shit or something easy like breakfast. She claims she is tired from work but I say she is just too damn lazy. I have told my wife but there is not much she can or will say to her Mom. The wife's Uncle is far worse and remains seated in his throne until dinner is ready. He's a real piece of work as well and also recently retired. Not one has he offered to do anything until I berated him by telling him to serve himself and making him dry dishes.
There is a point coming very soon where I'm going to rip in to both of them and tell them how lazy they both are. We work hard yet we carry almost the entire load. Neither one of them has a clue and this is especially true for the Uncle who lived on his own for the last 20 years. I know now that the MIL did none of the cooking at home with her deceased partner and this also held true with regard to the condition of their apartment. What a dump that was...
Anyone else that has dealt with or dealing with this? Like to see how some have handled.
