I hooked up with an older straight guy who was experimenting, and we've been seeing each other for a couple months.

He told me a few days ago that he thinks he's still straight and the reason he likes me is because I'm effeminate enough that he doesn't think of me as a man, but that's not enough anymore.

He said if I want to stay with him, he's going to feminize me. He's going to turn me into a girl.

I'll be the first to admit that, whatever genetic dice roll happened while I was growing up, I'm at the very least androgynous. People mistake me for a woman often enough it doesn't register anymore.

And I really think I love him, I want to stay with him, but I'm not sure I'm up to being a woman, and whatever he has in mind for 'feminization' sounds potentially terrifying? He said he doesn't want to castrate me or anything like that, but still...

Any advice? Should I stay with him and become a woman, or leave and lose someone I'm in love with?

MOVE ON, dude. If he wants to change you into something your not, then he does not accept you as who you are. DO not ever alter the dynamics of your own person for the sake of anyone. MOVE ON before its too late and before you get in any deeper and the hurt is worse.

If you're willing to make the change for him, then do so. If his love is worth that much to you, do so. If you're already feminine enough to be mistaken for a woman, whatever he wants to do can't be that bad. From what you said, he's not going to ask you to get bottom surgery, if he minded a cock and balls you'd know by now.

He probably just wants you to get used to cross dressing, referring to yourself as a woman, grow your hair out, things like that. It could even be fun.

Talk to him, voice your concerns, find out what he would have you do, and if it's anything you absolutely cannot consider doing (and take a little bit to think it over) then do as #1 says and move on. Find someone who appreciates you for you, and can take your particular androgyny without wanting you to compromise your identity.

But whatever you do, be sure about it. You don't want to look back at this and wonder if things would be better if you had stayed with him, or regret changing yourself for him.

..."he thinks he is still straight"...and until HE comes to accept the truth that he is bisexual you will be a liability. Why? If he isn't willing to admit he prefers men you can have full gender reassignment surgery but he will still think he is straight. Regardless, of when, or how at some point HE will be forced to deal (publically) with the fact that you were once a man and he knew it. At that time unless he is willing to come out, he will RESENT you because you are the reason he was exposed. You are doing all the changes for him and he is doing nothing. His delusion of "being straight" will be the downfall of your relationship and you will be the one left empty handed and further isolated because gender reassignment is sometimes rejected by other gays. You are on your way to be the minorities, minorities and you will be alone because he will dump you like a hot potato when he is exposed - he will do so to protect his own delusion. You best move on, dude and find someone who is gay and not ashamed to admit it.

I wouldn't throw love away for some kinky sex, that can all end as quick as it started.

Let him feminize you. But make him pay for everything and don't let him talk you into having your cock and balls turned into an artificial pussy and don't let him talk you into hormones unless you really want to be a girl. Breast implants can be reversed. Mostly feminizing for him will probably be for you to put on make-up, grow your hair long and wear frilly things. Girls do that for their men all the time. It's not a lot for anyone to do honestly.
