I once killed someone. I feel no remorse. I never will. He was someone who needed to be killed. I didn't do it to punish him for anything in particular. It was a simple matter of choice. I could have chosen to do nothing and watch through the scope as he killed his wife or I could take the shot.

I had been out hunting and had bagged a deer and a turkey. I had bagged the deer first and intended to clean and dress it and keep some and give some to my neighbors who didn't have a lot of money and had some kids and could use the meat. That would have kept them going for more than a month. I like deer meat but I don't love it. But food is food. Had I bagged the turkey first I probably would have quit right then as I much prefer turkey. I know a lot of people don't like it but I love turkey. Having both meant I would have that entire yummy turkey to myself and just a little deer meat and my neighbor would have all the more for his family. So I got back to my rented cabin with my game and was getting ready to go to work cleaning it when I heard some screaming. We were miles from any police. We were miles from anything and in fact I didn't think I had any neighbors at the campsite. I didn't really. They didn't live in the camp ground, only across the lake outside the campground. curious, I looked through the scope of my rifle to see what was going on. This man was chasing a woman around their backyard and he had a huge knife in his hand. I saw blood on her face and arm. Despite the distance, I could clearly hear him say he was going to kill her and finish her off once and for all and find a real wife who knew how to keep house and keep her mouth shut. She started screaming hysterically and he came at her with the knife. He was probably twice her size and could easily kill her and would have. So I aimed and squeezed the trigger hoping to at least wing him which would maybe get his attention enough to stop going after her though I was hoping really that I was going to succeed in taking him out. I knew if my first shot didn't do the job it was going to be very difficult to make the second one count.

The bullet went clean through his chest. It was a lucky shot. He was about twice the range that the deer was and I struggled to hit the deer. The deer was also just standing there grazing while this guy was lunging forward. Much harder to hit a moving target.

He staggered and was dead when he hit the ground. The wife screamed then was quiet. I had for a second thought I might have made a mistake. But then I saw her run into the house and carry out two very small kids, one was bleeding. She ran to the car and drove like a bat out of hell. I decided against extending my hunting trip and departed on time the next day and drove the 300 miles home with my haul. I am glad I rented the cabin on a handshake and paid in cash and know how to clean up after myself.

I watched the papers and found little about the incident except a brief mention that someone had been accidentally killed by a stray bullet. It was attributed to the hunting camp across the lake. Ballistics weren't as advanced in those days.

The following year I decided to return to the same place to do more hunting. But while I was in the neighborhood I went to the public library nearby and looked up the newspapers from the year before. There wasn't a lot but it turned out the guy had a string of felonies, was wanted in connection to a robbery, had been married twice and was suspected in the death of his first wife, the second wife was missing and he was suspected in her disappearance. That was the lady I saw take off with her two kids. In general he was not a nice person and so needed to be killed. The police concluded as I mentioned above that he had most likely been hit by a stray bullet from a careless hunter and so it was ruled an accident and they were more concerned about the missing woman and her two kids who were feared dead.

I was 23 years old then. I'm 74 years old now. That was fifty one years ago. I know there's no statute of limitations for murder but from what I have read, it would have been ruled justifiable so I'm not really worried about going to prison. I just can't be bothered at this late stage dealing with all the paperwork and interrogation etc. I'm posting it here because my oncologist said my tumor will kill me in a few weeks and I wanted the truth to be published some place before I die.

Almost certainly not murder. Well done. Actually we need more such killings - and don't think I'm some kind of right-wing nutcase, I'm as liberal as they come.

Some people just plain need killing! You did good! If you're worried about some kind of judgement in the afterlife - don't! The world is full of evil bastards, and you rid it of one, at least! The "missing" wife and children probably give thanks on a daily basis for the "accident" which saved them! God bless you, Sir!

I agree with 1 2 &3. Too many assholes, not enough bullets. You did the right thing. From the way you said things were playing out, he would've killed her and then the children. They would have been potential witnesses. You were across a lake. You couldn't have possibly gotten there in time to stop him even if you had tried. Justice was served. God bless you, and best wishes.

Of all the interesting forums to confess to you come to a seedy adult confessions sight where half the confession are about under aged children or are from underage children pretending to be adults
