I need some advice here about my 24 year old male cousin "Ron". He met this girl "Becky" last year at a party. Becky and Ron hit it off, becky claimed to be 18 at the time. I am married with kids of my own, I met Becky a couple times via Ron, even my Aunt, Ron's mom gets along perfect with Becky who came over a lot. Early this year my husband and I went out to dinner with Ron and Becky to celebrate Becky's "19" Birthday. Becky honestly looks even older than 19, she is also 5'8 fully developed and socially mature. Ron was crazy over her, she even introduced him to some friends and female cousins of hers which she said is her roommates, but really one who was never home was her guardian. Becky hanged out with a lot of older friends that attended our community college and she also played it off as if she was attending there too.

Ron and Becky dated for about ten months total when a few months ago, a teacher at Becky's school (high school) found out about her relationship with an older guy and turned them in. Come to find out Becky is really 16 and started dated Ron when she was 15. Long story short, Ron got in some serious trouble, even explaining to the judge he still has to attend some kind of court ordered "offenders counseling group". He has since lost his job and has become very distant with his families.

I am particularly upset and I don't blame Ron about this because I was fooled by this girl also. My husband, my Aunt, and Ron's friends are in total up raw. Not because he is my cousin, but this is wrong, there were no signs. How dare this girl play games. Girls like Becky make it really harder for other girls that are real victims of older men seductions. This is not fair.
Sorry for the long post.

I sincerely sympathise with Ron, with you and also your family, but for the interim period what's done is done.
I take it that he was convicted of having a sexual relationship with a minor? If what you report is to be taken as the truth, and I do not doubt that it is, the judge obviously had grounds to believe that Ron was aware of her age. As unfair as the reported situation is, all previously mentioned points being taken into consideration, he now bears the mark of a sex offender and there is not much that can be done about it failing that of an appeal against the conviction based upon new evidence being introduced. You do not mention if the Becky was permitted to give evidence in this case and if so what did she have to tell to the court? Did she make a statement to the police to the effect that Ron was aware of her age for example? These are all relevant points and may determine the possibility of an appeal against a wrong conviction.

In this particular instance I am sorry that I cannot offer any further advice until these questions are answered.

The records will show that ever since the introduction of policing and justice systems worldwide, that there have been an un-calculable volume of cases whereby both males and females have been convicted of sexual offences. The records will likewise also show that Judges decisions have been overturned on appeal upon the introduction of new evidence. Likewise I have no doubt whatsoever that there are a vast number recorded whereby the presiding Judge knows very well what the situation was, but doing his or her job correctly, even knowing that the accused had been unfairly misled or tricked, had no option but to impose a sentence.

Hi Thanks believe it! I did forget to mention "Ron" has an appeal in, and it is up in mid Jan. Becky was devastated when Ron wanted nothing to do with her, so she was not as truthful out of spite. Also at the hearing, Becky pretended to act like a little innocent teary eyed 10 year old twit. Although Becky half admit she was the dirty liar, they felt she was just sticking up for him. My Aunt said her testimony to the court but it did not help much. One of the so call points the defense brought up was background checking on Ron's part, now how many of us are guilty of that? We now know Becky also has a history of running away and promiscuity. So we will keep our fingers crossed!!

Becky is an awful person. Think of all the young girls that are really being abused, and she is obviously making it so hard for the real victims to get justification. Shame.
