Straight Female / 27
Up till today I worked in a company which has primarily college graduate professionals. I think there is only one woman who does not have a college degree. Most everyone makes good money, I got paid 90,000 a year, and I have never received a bonus less than 25,000. I will be 27 in June.
Here you were assigned to your mentor, in my case my mentor is a man. But others have woman mentors. It doesn't seem to matter if you are male or female, your mentor can either be male or female. Your mentor is personally responsible for you. Your mentor is held personally accountable for your professional development. It is intense and one on one. My mentor is also personally involved in my personal life. I got in trouble with some financial matters, basically charging to much on my credit cards, and so now he managed my paycheck and he made sure I paid off my credit cards.
When I was struggling with passing my professional certification exams he took me home with him and set a study schedule for me until I passed.
After I passed my exams I said something that I will never take back,, I threw myself on him and told him I loved him and that without him I would never have passed my exams. He held me and told me he loved me too. Since then I have told him many times I love him, both in person, on the phone and in emails and texts. I am in love with him, so I am not saying something that is not true. His love for me is also obvious and we have slept together.
Today I was let go for having a 'personal' relationship with him. He could not protect me, and I know that his bonus is affected.
I don't understand how they can give you to a man who is personally responsible for your professional and personal life and you are expected not to fall in love. Every day for the last three years I have talked to him, I have slept at his house so many times I can't remember. I didn't start sleeping with him until six months ago. I have sat in the room with him at his desk while I studied for my exams, and he explained to me how the questions work. At my birthday party when I turned 25 he was at my house and told my mother that he was responsible for me. That day, when I left with him, I had the unmistakable feeling of being where I should be. Our feelings for each other have not affected my work.
I will get another job and another company will get all the benefit of intense professional training, of my certification, and of my work ethic. And I will continue with the same mentor. Separating us does not change my love for him or his love for me. I guess now we will just get married.
