When I was a kid I was a tomboy, one of the guys rather than the one who fucks them all (sorry Jemma I know this is you). Anyways that changed when I grew boobs and the friendships broke down.

From the age of 15 I was in a steady 3 and a 1/2 year relationship with an absolute asshole. He was annoying, sarcastic everything I soon realised I did not want out of life. I met a wonderful (so I thought) guy and with my last relationship ending, I gave this one a shot.

He initially was so possessive, screamed at me if I went out to see a friend, banned me from drinking (which I did every other month if that), got edgy when I was visiting my dying friend in hospital (saying I neglected him). When we spoke on msn I had to set up a private account just for me and him and if I went on other one I got interogated.

I found out at Christmas that he had lied about one of his friends getting raped just for attention (when he knew I had been raped as well), saw his ex while we were sort of seeing each other and done other things. Stupid thing was I suspected it all.

Now here is my confession, he has managed to get a ring on my finger and after I graduate from university we are due to get married, seriously am I just a glutten for punishment? I suffered a nervous breakdown last year and those old feelings of depression are creeping back in, I need to stop it...how do I do it?

The first thing is to grow some legs, stand up and walk away, don't ever think about looking back, because theres nothing back there to see. Find somebody else, you already know what you've had, so if the new find is starting to look familiar, walk away, it's your life, why let somebody else run it. Been there done that, and good luck to you.

You sound like an old friend of the X's. This girl used to show up here to sob on her shoulder about the misserable guy whe was with. Over time the verbal abuse became physical and she would arrive here all bruised time and time again until the last time when her neighbor called the cops, who arrived just as he was starting to beat her, this time with a BASEBALL BAT. Because both the neighbors and the cops witnessed that final act; he was convicted and sent to prison and she found a nice new guy and moved on with her life.
Perhaps you, being a college girl, have enough brains to move on before you get deeper in the chit. Think its hard getting out now; you have no clue girl. Its just you and him now; once a home, kids, and intertwinded financials get tossed into the mix, then you'll find out what causes break-downs, so since you claim you "can't take much more;" don't. Move on.
