Your confession exemplifies how weak so many men in this country are becoming. You would rather turn tail and leave the state instead of man up and deal with a difficult situation that you partially caused. I said partially because now that your son is an adult, it is on him to handle his part. In other words, you can't do it for him. Unless he just wants to hold on to the consequences from the past, any effort you could do to make amends would be futile. If you think total abandonment would make it right between you two, then there is no use in trying.
