Anything Goes

My name is Marissa and I'm 17. One day I was driving home from school, and my best friend, Lauren, was riding with me. We live on the same block, so we usually go to and from school together. Someone was driving REALLY close behind me, and I realized it was my boyfriend's car. He has really dark windows, so I couldn't see his face, but I knew it was his car. I assumed he was driving so close behind me just as a joke. At that time, we had only started dating a couple of weeks ago. We make fun of each other and say jokingly rude things to each other constantly. It's like our personal inside joke.
I stopped at a red light and he stopped behind us. For the past couple of minutes, Lauren and I had been planning on coming up with a funny response. She took a piece of paper and a permanent marker out of my school bag and I told her to write "GET OFF MY ASS" with a big smiley face after it. She climbed into the back seat and held the sign against the window. We were laughing so hard. After she took it down and got back in her seat, I turned my head back and grinned at the car behind us.
When I got home, I texted James (my boyfriend) and asked how he liked my sign. He texted me back with "what sign?" I asked, didn't you see the sign Lauren and I made for you when you were driving behind us? He went on to explain that his mom's car had broken down that morning, so she had to take his car to run an errand. She was just following me so closely because she drives like a crazy person. WE HAD BEEN HOLDING UP THAT SIGN FOR HIS MOM. Since James and I had just started dating, I hadn't met her yet, so she didn't know what I looked like or what my car looked like. She has a job where she's not home very much, so she had never been home when I went to his house.
A few days later, I went to his house while his mom was there and I met her. None of us said anything about it. I think by some miracle she didn't recognize me. What a hilarious experience to be able to tell people about.
