We Earned It, We Are Not Ashamed Of It
It has been a long road. I arrived in the US with ten dollars and little knowledge of English. I worked at night, studied during the day and earned my degree and went to work, I was 28. By then I spoke English, but I was still not culturally adapted. I made arrangements for a wife from my country, all my savings were required to find a wife and have her brought to me. Like me, she was lost in this world and cried all night for her home.
Ten years later we had a family, my wife had a college degree and we could pretend our way around society. My work required commitment, my wife had to deal with the day to day. The reward was money, a better standard of living, and a flow of money back to our country to educate our siblings, they all graduated from university.
Our daughter got married in a lavish wedding with guests from family, friends and business. Our children are educated with advance degrees, they are responsible good human beings. Now in our retirement years we continue to provide assistance for education of nieces and nephews, we have a nice home in a nice area, we have abundant savings, properties. We are in the one percent.
We have been blessed, we worked hard, my wife husbanded our wealth as it grew, it is ours.
I do not feel it is our place to give to others what we have worked hard to obtain, we look after ours, our families, educating our next generations. The rest is ours to enjoy.
