I came home last night to find my girlfriend and our nine-month old son gone. She left me a 12 page letter which makes me think that she had planned this for a while. I mean who has time to write 12 pages in one day? Anyway, in her letter she gave the reasons why she was leaving and I'm not sure whether they're legitimate or not.

She accused me of having an emotional affair with an old girlfriend. This woman lives across the country and I talk to her maybe 3 or 4 times a week. I call her, but she is in an abusive marriage and I am trying to convince her to leave her husband.

She said that I am inconsiderate because I sometimes finish off food at home without checking first to see if she wants any or wants to give some to our son. I work double shifts once a week and when I come home I usually look for whatever can go into the microwave so I can eat, shower, and fall asleep.

She complained that when I got a new cell phone, I gave my old one to my co-worker whose cell phone died, rather than giving it to her. I'm not sure if she's mad because she wanted a newer phone or because the co-worker is female.

She said that I never stay up when the baby is sick. I'm not sure what to say about this. I wasn't even aware he was sick that often. I know that I went to bed a couple times when he was crying, but babies cry all the time, right?

She said that I'm not romantic, that I only buy her practical gifts and never take her any place nice. I'm not sure what kinds of gifts she wants. Jewelry maybe? I wanted to buy her some victoria's secret, but she's still about 20 lbs overweight from the baby and I thought it would make her feel fat if I bought her a large. So I bought a diaper genie thing because she complained about having to take the trash out every time the baby took a shit. I don't know what she means about a nice place to go out. For her birthday we went to Red Lobster which cost me a lot.

She wanted to quit her job because her boss was always hitting on her. I thought, well its a good job and our son goes to the day care on the next street, so I went down to her job and told her boss that if he did anything funny I'd smash his face in. He turned all red and said that he was just being friendly. I thought she'd be happy, but she said that she still wanted to quit because now he'd give her bad shifts. I already think her shifts are bad because she doesn't work during the busy times when there are a lot of tips. So I said that maybe she'd be better off working nights because then she's make more money and we wouldn't need day care because she could just drop him off with her mom after her mom gets home from work. After all, he's baby. He goes to bed at 7:30 anyway.

I guess the thing that she was most mad about (since she wrote 3 pages about it) is that I asked her if I could have a b.j. for my birthday since the doctor said she couldn't go back on the pill while she was breast-feeding and its been 11 months since we had sex.

I didn't do any of these things to be a bad guy or "mfing bastard" as she called me. I guess I was clueless.

No one stays together anymore, unless one is financially or emotionally dependant on the other, but then, the financially or emotionally stable one gets to resent the dependancy of the other....
There used to be social stigmas associated with being single and/or being a single parent, but, despite some difficulties, the single parent will eventually find support from some third party support/provider, and find a way to limp along. We are all just limping along. Welcome to the club.

Sorry to say brother, you do sound like a clueless mfing bastard (don't worry about it, most of us are when it comes to women). But I don't agree with the last person, (who is probably some bitter cunt) you should not burn in hell. Also, have you ever heard of postpartum depression? Do a search online and educate yourself, most women suffer from it after birth. If you do manage to get her back, here is some advice. Just agree with whatever she wants. If you think your right about something and she doesn't, just agree with her and say "oh yeah baby your right that makes sense". It will keep you out of a lot of trouble. Good Luck Brother

buy her a size large Victoria secret anything- adore her- love her. she is going to feel fat if you think she is fat. whatever- she had a baby!!!! love every inch of her- and love her good. sounds like you were going through the motions and really not connecting with her. you don't deserve to be punished but you don't deserve her right now. you asked for a blow job for your b. day? do not ever treat your wife or any woman that you care about like a whore again!!!! when was the last time you went down on her? you should REALLY think about ways you can give her pleasure. There's lots of things you can do for a woman sexually that don't involve coming inside her. I don't think it sounds like all is lost. but you should start making a gigantic effort to think about how she is feeling and how you can make her feel treasured. and you should know that you will be very lucky to get them back. and when you do you should DEMONSTRATE that you know you are lucky.

You do sound a bit clueless, but this situation is not really your fault.
I agree with the person who mentioned post-partum depression.
You might ask her to go with you to counseling.
You might try asking her mother to intercede with her for you, but that might make things worse depending on what kind of a mother-in-law she is.

Babies don't cry all the time.
Keeping the little guy in the bed with you at night (in a basket, perhaps, or some such thing to prevent his bed wetting from getting to you) would help.
Babies don't actually sleep all the time.
They sleep for a while and then they wake up.
When they wake up they want to be near their parents.

It would piss off most wives to hear their husbands making numerous long distance calls to female friends advising said friends to leave their husbands.
You've got to cut the old friend loose and concentrate on your wife even if it doesn't seem reasonable to you.

All that said, it sounds as though you both are not too well off financially.
Maybe she wasn't ready for all the troubles which children bring.
Most of the chicks I know want to be shown a considerable amount of romance and attention even if they don't ask for it and claim they don't need it.
Practical gifts for birthdays, Christmas, or - God forbid - Valentine's Day are a big no-no.

I hope she'll come back to you.
Keep us posted.

Well, its kinda hard to say who's right and who's wrong but know this: females are the most jealous creatures ever, and as a female I can tell you that if I was in her shoes i'd probably do the same. Well not ALL the same, but I'd be jealous of your co worker and raging about you talking to your ex. Who cares if your ex has a shitty life. Shes gone now, not your responsibility. Maybe instead of trying to be macho with your GF's boss you could've just convinced her to quit, transfer, or file a formal complaint. Bitching out the boss is just gonna make it more agonizing for her to go to work. You're not all wrong though. Like why would your GF deny you just ONE bj?? what is the world coming to when your only mate wont help ya out. Sounds like she's selfish / insecure, and you just need a woman who knows who you are, what you're like, and doesn't expect all these things that you're not up for. Don't worry about your son. Get joint custody.... sleeping when the baby's crying, are you well?!! shit like that will get your baby boy taken away for good. ur little baby is only going to be a baby once, dont waste it by being a shitty dad.
Long story short: Buck up, screw your babys mama, and first focus on being a better daddy before finding a new girl

No sex in 11 months and she wonders why some other girl gets your attention?!? Seems to me that she is just as clueless as you are.

Guess what! There's a new invention... it's called a condom. Get a pack and bang her brains out.

I don't think you are a mfing bastard. Not at all. I am a woman, and yes, I deffinitly think you did some things wrong. BUT, she was extremely immature by writing a LETTER about this instead of communicating what she was feeling and whatever was making her upset. So much would have been solved or avoided if you two were just on the same page as eachother. I think you are a decent guy, and I'm sure if she had SAID "hey honey...I miss doing romantic things with you, why don't we do stuff like that anymore?" then I'm sure you would have noticed and made a better effort to take her out and such. About the baby stuff, maybe a parenting class would be good for BOTH of you, to do together. If you bring up that suggestion, it will show her that you are ready to make changes for the better. Good Luck to you. I hope it all works out. Don't be too hard on yourself!

P.S. NEVER EVER EVER EVER SLEEP WITH YOUR BABY IN THE BED WITH YOU!!!!!! I can't believe someone said that! Suffocation deaths from parents bringing their babies into bed with them account for almost half of infant deaths!! You could roll onto them in your sleep and you'd never hear or feel anything. NEVER DO THIS!!!!
