How Could I Be Do Dumb
When i joined the army, It was the first year women where allowed to.
During basic training old school army didn't want them there.
They tired everything to make the girls quit.
Basic is hard enough without someone riding you unfairly.
I had been training to get into commando's, so basic was just a stepping stone .
i was fit, well built but lacked the ability to take shit from idiots, i'd never survive basic.
How in hell would i make SAS with this attitude? So i had to learn to shut my mouth.
Within a week 15 per cent pulled the pin, most where women. In my platoon i had only one girl left, I Nick named her Millie, not for her height but because no matter how much she tried she would always be just that short of what they wanted. Of course that pissed her off and so she tried even harder. Rather than lose her. I started training with her, encouraging to push past her limits. Other girls from different platoons started coming with us after hours training.
Before i knew it, Nco's , WO's then q officer where giving me a hard time. This wasn't how i planned things.
During the last part of basic, everyone had to compete the obstacle course but it had been raining for a week. So bridges once above water now where 2 ft under with rapid water.
It was the perfect time to disqualify, so all the platoon sections left with women, where told to complete it. The blokes in my section where pissed off. If one fails we all do.
Sorry i'm going into to much detail. Anyway our section hit the bridge about third, It looked so dangerous they where waiting for someone else to do it first, then they would give it a try.
I turned to a mate i could trust and said, I'll go first, I'll be the catcher. count how long it takes. You go last. if anyone takes more than five seconds longer raise your arm. I looked at Millie don't go 2nd last you will lose your nerve, she nodded. I went feet first with the river into pitch black, i counted with one hand touching the underside of the bridge as i went. Otherwise there was no telling when i was on the other side. I grabbed the last beam by pure luck i guess and looked up stream. Now i had made it, other sections started to move into the river. I waved back, the next of my section didn't hesitate, I caught him as he came thru, same time as me. 15 seconds. then the next and next still no Millie. She had to do it or we all fail. finally we all were thru but Millie and my mate. then he appeared. She wont do it!
The next section started to come thru, I looked up at the safety nco, "can i run back"? He shook his head "its all about team work". So hand over hand i pulled my self up stream under the bridge, when i came out at the top i found Millie standing shaking to one side. I wasn't cranky, i just said "i'm gunna take you thru" there where no ifs or buts. I guess she trussed me. I put her between my legs with my feet under hers and her arms around my neck. I looked her in the eyes and she nodded and i let go. When we came out the other side even the nco was cheering. she was the first girl ever to do it. She was still horrified and coughing up water but still she had made it. We ended up competing the course in the shortest time and took the honours.
Now how dumb am I? tradition after "pass out" is writing stuff on others pt shirts to remember what & who you went thru all this shit with. i lost mine it just got taken. no big deal. I had lost washing before but it always turned up wash and folded. Some guys reckon women do that to show they like a fella.
Then a few weeks later back at my barracks, i got called out towards the end of parade.
A WO took great pride holding up my pt shirt and reading every comment. (Apparently the girls had stolen my shirt and written things that still make me blush today). The Wo looked at me and said how dumb are you. They all wanted you and you had no idea!
I liked Millies comment the best. I'd go thru hell again just to be between your legs, your the best ride ever, i was so wet! Smiles, i know what she meant. But damn all those other girls, i had no idea. I could of enjoyed basic, they where so hot.
