Just a few things I have to get off my chest.

I can't tell you how much I despise people who try to trample on the God-given rights of other people.

I see red everytime I see (and read) these idiots who are continually trying to ban smoking, completely.

Hey, guess what? Not all smokers are inconsiderate assholes!

I respect non-smoker's rights to not breath my second hand smoke.

I'm what some people might call a "considerate smoker."

I don't smoke in retail stores. I don't smoke in supermarkets. I don't smoke when I'm walking down a sidewalk, and there are other people around. I don't even smoke in restaurants where there are designated smoking areas, because I know there are non-smokers close by who are trying to enjoy their meal. Hell, I don't even smoke in my own damn house, because my wife is a non-smoker.

I only smoke in 4 different places. My yard, my vehicle, on our (home) balcony, and wide open spaces where there are no people within 30 or 40 feet from me.

And I'm telling you straight, it has been (literally) at least 4 years since I've seen anyone smoking in a place where it's prohibited. And I live in Atlanta, Rude Capital of the Southeast. (I hate this friggin' place, but that's another story)

So, the majority of smokers are very well aware of the anti-smoking sentiment amongst so many Americans, and the majority of us try to respect that.

What gives anyone the right to try to tell me that I can't smoke in my own home, my own car, or anywhere there's not people around me?

And don't even try to use the argument of "health-care costs," because I friggin' PAY for insurance too! Out the nose.

How would you like it (and you know who you are) if folks were trying to ban some of your favorite foods (cholesterol, artery-clogging foods such as dairy products) because some narcissistic asswipes feel it's bad for you? Didn't think so.

I'm also (and my wife) incredibly sick and tired of all the "politically correct" spineless jellyfish in this country. (USA)

You can't say ANYTHING these days without offending some group of people, somewhere.

I've been married to my wife for ten long years. We are an interracial couple. I'm WHITE, that's the color of my skin. She's BLACK, that's the color of her skin. That's HER attitude as well.

She's not some young, impressionable girl, she's retired from the U.S Navy.

Ask her about being "African American," and she'll tell you, "I was born in the United States, not Africa."

This crap has gotten waaaay out of hand.

You even see the police (on TV) calling suspects "a person of interest."

What kind of shit is that?

Look, you're either a SUSPECT, or you're NOT! Being a SUSPECT means that sufficient evidence exists for the police to SUSPECT you. DUH!!!

*Sigh*

Common sense, a thing of the past.....

I take it that all the ranting and raving is due to the fact that you got caught smoking in a place other than the four that you mentioned.

I take it that all the ranting and raving is due to the fact that you got caught smoking in a place other than the four that you mentioned.

Wrong.

All the ranting and raving was simply because certain people can't grasp the very simple concept of "live and let live."

Why does everyone want to "rule the world?"

I HATE smoking. However I also hate being told how to live my life.In the UK we are now known as the "nanny state",and you can't even break wind without getting a fine.Immigration is out of control,in fact we don't have any border controls, and if we do catch one the chances are they are put up in an expensive hotel.
It has to stop!

I have never seen a majority of smokers anywhere who respect my wishes to be smoke free. What do you call the smokers who attend a function where smoking is not allowed, but stand outside right in front of the door and smoke forcing the rest of us to pass through their cloud of polution only to have to smell cigarette smoke in my hair the whole evening. I certainly would not call them respectful. You sir are one in a million, not one of a majority. I too hate the way people have to be so correct all the time. I feel our rights are stepped on everyday. Maybe we do need someone to tell us how to eat. America has some of the fattest asses in the world. Weather you pay for your ins. or not does not really hold water. You know as well as the rest of us the the majority of us pay for all the smokers illnessess and the many health problems fat people have. I am all for anyone who wants to kill themselves in the privacy of their own home. Be it by smoking or eating or whatever. So please by all means light up, just don't do it where I have to enhale it and inturn will not shove a greasy cheeseburger down your throat against your will.

Thanks.

It's very seldom these days that I (personally) have any hope for humanity.

But, after reading posts like yours, I realize I'm really not alone.

It really IS a comfort knowing that we (my wife and I) are not alone.

Seemingly, the world really has gone crazy

So how do we stop the rot,and get some sanity back?

Well, you tell me, then we'll both know, LoL.

Seriously, I don't have the slightest idea where a person (or group of people) would even begin.

My wife and I completely keep to ourselves, with 3 or 4 exceptions, and they're all family members.

I'm serious. We don't socialize, don't have friends, anything like that.

Don't get me wrong, we're not snobs, or think we're better than anyone else, we both came from humble blue-collar backgrounds.

It's just that we genuinely prefer to separate ourselves from a world that seemingly has spun completely out of control. Personally, I feel society has passed the point of no return. And make no mistake about it, "Average Americans" have no voice anymore, haven't had for a long, long time. No one listens to little peons like us.

*Sigh*

The best thing I can think of is to just try to keep sanity and rational thinking intact in our own homes and lives, then hope and pray for the best.
