Oh my gosh, I have the nosiest neighbors EVER! Let me start by telling you that for 3 solid weeks I was really sick. I was back and forth to the ER several times, and just felt like complete crap. My husband whos in the military, works 3rd shift, so he was trying to help take care of me, the children, the house, AND attend to his duties at work. Well 2 of our LOVELY neighbors take it upon themselves to start up a chat session on how my 2 and 4 year old children were always left outside "unattended", and they were starting to get "concerned" for the safety of the children. Well finally one neighbor, who I thought was a really good friend, FINALLY came to me and said she had some issues and expressed them. I told her that part of what she said was true, my Husband and I acknowledged that our kids were outside alot and we werent always out there with them. EVEN THOUGH, they usually stay in our adjoing yard with a different neighbor, our front door and curtains are ALWAYS open, and my husband and I DO stay close by the door to make sure no one is getting hurt. BUT instead of coming to ME with the issue, this person waits 2 weeks to tell me how she feels. She ignores me when I wave at her, her children look as if they have to have permission to speak to me, and he overall demeanor is obvious that there is something wrong. But, before she came to me about her issue, I see her outside one day talking to a lady about 4 houses down, and my children are playing outside as they are talking. My children go towards her house to play with her children (who now treat my kids as if they have a disease) and my kids are romping around near her car..which had been in her garage all day. But not only does SHE snap at my kids, but her husband snaps at my kids, and I hear this going on, so I run out the door and immediatley bring my kids inside. Well I later learn, that after I came in, these 2 women sat there and discussed my inability to care for my children. And they brought other neighbors in to it, that had NO part in it at all. So, this boils down to my neighbor spreading GOSSIP around to several other neighbors, instead of just coming to me. If she would have came to me first, then I wouldnt be mad. There WAS an issure with my kids basically doing whatever they wanted to do. But she told the lady 4 doors down about it before she ever even came to me. This is a woman who is near 40 years old, and I am 24..I have had to be the bigger person by basically going door to door and apologozing to each and every one of my neighbors for any problems my kids may have caused. Funny thing is, no one else seemed to have an issue with my kids!! Just this one lady, who children NEVER come out side, because shes afraid the sun will shine to bright and BLIND THEM. My whole opinion on this whole thing, is worry about whats going on in your OWN house before you try to go sixing everyone elses issues. People parent differently and sometimes some parents like myself get lazy and they slack on their responsibilities. But that doesnt give anyone the right, to sit in their house..looking out the blinds, judging the neighbors..when the room behind them is on fire. People are so worried about EVERYONE elses problems. So, since I am NEVER outside, with my children I though maybe I would purchase a lifeguard tower..post it in the middle of my yard, and sit there with binoculars EVERY time my kids are outside. And..Im going to do it with my bikini on so that I can finally get a tan! I live in Hawaii. Lets see how the neighbors respond to THAT.

I'm sorry to hear of yor troubles, but if I saw two children, 2 and 4, left outdoors unattended in an (presumable unfenced) yard, I'd be on the phone with the authorities.

Yes, your neighbors sound like nosy SOBs, but that's not an excuse to leave your children at harm. Being able to see them from the window is not proper supervision for children that young.

You;d be surprised at how fast a child can run off or hurt themselves. For the sake of your cildren, please keep them indoors near you or hire a teenage kid for a few bucks/hr to watch them.

I agree with you, my children do not need to be left outside unattended, but I shouldn't be singled OUT! EVERY parent on the block is guilty of letting their children out to play unattended. My whole issue isn't with the children playing unattended..we addressed that issue and now we make sure that one of us is ALWAYS out there. I don't even come in for a sip of water...but MY issue is that my "friend" told someone 4 doors down about this, and didn't come to me FIRST. Im still young, I make mistakes like everyone else. but she could have came to me, and given me a gentle wake up call. INSTEAD..she GOSSIPS with everyone on the dang block.

Yep - they could have approached you politely. Sadly though, people just aren't nice any more. I can't remember the last time a loaned or borrowed a cup of sugar from the neighbors.

I'm happy to hear that you're outside play with or at least watching your kids. They'll grow up much happier and safer for your trouble.

Well you just admitted that you are lazy when it comes to your kids. I dont think its gossip when you are obviously not keeping an eye on such young kids. No way in HELL would I let a 4 and 2 yr old be out front alone. That excusse you used about the curtains and door being open is soooooo lame. It takes only a second for something bad to happen to a child. Especialy ones that young. I think your neighbors were correct to have observed what was going on and if they talked about it so what. Its a free country and YOU were in the wrong. So you were singled out for being a bad parent. If the shoe fits well you know the rest. If it were me and I saw your kids ALWAYS unattended I would have called CPS on your lazy ass. Stop bitching about what is being said about you and maybe listen. You are a LAZY parent and need to tend to your kids. So what if the neighbors didnt COME to YOU first and talk about it. They probably see you as trash for not tending to your kids. I dont talk to my trashy neighbors. Because they are trash. See the pattern here???? Go watch your kids and stop posting about it. LAZY ASS!!!

I said that I HAVE BEEN lazy AT TIMES! Show me a parent that hasn't been. But whatever. The issue with the neighbor is over, and I have come to respect her for just telling me period. I know that she really cares about the safety of my children and I WAS WRONG. My feelings were just hurt that this person felt like she couldn't come to me. Maybe Im a little mad at myself for that. But I am outside with my kids all the time now..and I think my neighbor done a very good thing. But no one likes to feel like they are being talked about behind their back. But thanks for what you said..I guess there are alot of changes that need to be mad. But I can only do it one day at a time.

At least you are taking action and fixing the problem. Some people wouldn't even care. I think your neighbor had good intentions but she crossed the line and handled it pretty immaturely.

You know what? You are RIGHT. I went back and re-read some of my posts, and it does seem like I am pulling the "poor pitiful me" card!! Its like i made one excuse right after another about why I couldn't care for my kids. When all I was really doing was being pretty shitty and selfish. I mean, I was really sick..but this was going on before I got sick too. What you said to me was REALLY hard to hear, but I think I really needed to hear it. So right now I feel completely ashamed and humiliated. As much as I was mad at my neighbor, I really am very jealous of her. She is like the EPITOMY of a good mother, in my eyes. Shes loving, supportive, shes a hard worker and she just does alot of proactive stuff with her kids. Her kids are always so sweet and so polite. Like these kids are on their toes! That's how I want my kids to be. But I wasn't raised by a very loving and attentive mother, so sometimes I feel like I dont really know what to do. And alot of this parenting stuff didn't come very natural for me. So, sometimes I just want to bang on my neighbors door and BEG her to teach me how to be a good mom. Because Im still trying to figure alot of this stuff out. I don't want to be that piece of shit mom that has the bad ass kids. I take care of my kids the best way that I know how but it seems to be the WRONG way. But everyone is so quick to judge me instead of just being like "hey, what you are doing is wrong..heres a tip on how to change it". But thanks for what you said..as much as it sucks to hear it, and as crappy as I feel..I think it needed to be said. Looks like I have alot of changes to make. This has been like one of the biggest lessons I have ever learned. I have stayed awake so many nights over this. I think I just need a little guidance.

Oh WOW! Hmmm not sure what to say. I was just being an ass. Sorry. There is no real way of knowing how to be a good parent but sounds like your going to get on the right track. I am still trying to figure out this parenting thing for the past 14 years. It's not easy but one thing I do know is I am ALWAYS there for my boys. I'm not perfect at parenting but I do what I feel is my very best. Sure glade to see you were being the bigger person here. If it were me I probably would have responded like F U!!! Then stomped of crying. LOL!!! Just keep in mind your kids are only young ONCE and if you miss out you can NEVER get that time back. Good luck and best of wishes.

Thank you so much for being kind. I guess I really just needed a wake up call and someone that had the balls to say what you said. It hurt, but I had to take a step back and realize that I AM WRONG. but its totally different at my house now. I try to make sure that I am always available for my kids. ESPECIALLY when they are outside. And its funny because I am outside EVERY day with my kids, and I see all these other kids WITH NO SUPERVISION, that are around my kids same ages...and I think to myself "wow, that little girl just alomst ran out in the road"..that could have been one of MY kids. I am GLAD someone rattled my brain..I wasn't doing right by my kids. This parenting thing should come with a handbook dang it!! lol. But its ok..no hard feelings. Now that I see how stupid I was being..i may have said the same thing if I were you! thanks :-)
