Opening A Can Of Worms...
I've had some generally embarrassing and sometimes guilty thoughts that have haunted me for quite a long time, since I was a teen... I am just a typical guy that likes to look at beauty in women, but at the same time I've read up about real examples of women that did great things that got discredited due to beauty.
I find myself being a bit of a pervert and glancing at the parts of some ladies when they aren't paying attention, which has obviously gotten me in trouble, but yet I feel a hint of self-loathing when I think about it or get confronted about it, especially since I remember that a lot of women have done great things throughout history, and I remember that we still have that slight sexism thing in today's world.
I get it, it might be because I am literally a young-ish guy still, and I cannot help what my hormones are directing me towards, but my brain makes me try to value a ladies actual merits and intellect.
I especially remember that it was Hedy Lamarr whom helped with developing these things that are called "Wifi" and "Cell Phones" in today's world, because she wanted to do it as part of the war effort, only to be put to use boosting morale and sell war bonds. I believe she said "Her face was her misfortune", indeed.... (Granted, she was an actor, but she was also a genius)
I also remember that looks can be cruel for actors in the world of entertainment, since I'm sure plenty of acting geniuses didn't get parts perfect for them due to the silly idea that having looks means one is considered a bimbo in the eyes of certain types of directors, and I know people not "g*fted" with good looks are also cast aside.
All that I can ask myself, is this fair to women (and sometimes for the occasionally beautiful guy whom might be on the receiving end of the "pretty boy" stereotype)? I get that there are many other problems in the world, but I wonder if this is or isn't one of the bigger ones, since who knows how far the effects of stereotyping beauty can go? Might be undermining many types of people.
I apologize if this comes off as a guilt-trippy kinda post, but It's more of something that has been bothering me, and I wanted to vent it, but I just wish I could use my brain more often for looking at only personal merit, rather then any kind of biased thoughts.
The extend of such a topic no doubt veers into other types of categories not associated with looks but more into things dealing with other general false stereotypes, which is a pretty big can of worms.
