No Desire
I was reading on here about a number of bisexual experiences, so I thought that I would add my own.
Cathy and I are both divorced and in our early fifties and two years ago our friendship started to have a bisexual side to it. Neither of us would have dreamed of doing something like this with another woman because we both would have considered that to be lesbian and therefore questionable as well as undesirable.
Cathy and I had both grown up knowing and seeing lesbian women who were malcontents and mansih, and frankly that was not a very flattering image. As Cathy and I discovered, we could happily just be ourselves, and enjoy each other as women, without undergoing this transformation, as we have discovered that many woman do without being lesbian or having that negative connotation.
No, we are not madly in love with one another. We are not going to get married, We are just good friends who enjoy having sex together as such. After a year of delighting in this arrangement, we both began to feel quite comfortable about it. While we are discrete, we really do not go out of our way to be overly secretive about this either. After all, the two of us have been friends for a number of years and that is what we are. I know that undoubtedly we have been regarded as being lesbians, as many women friends are in this so-called new age of openness which has done nothing but make everyone hyper-sensitive and drawing a lot of very wrong conclusions. People now more than ever do feel some absurd need to apply a label to everything. Anyway, be that as it may.
I decided to tell my son, who is thirty-two and divorced, about Cathy and I having this sort of a relationship. I wanted to be open and honest with him and did not want to have to hide it. I was afraid that he might be shocked and think that this was somehow awful, and that his mom was a lesbian. In fact, he was very understanding and accepting, and was extremely practical about it. He said how he could see that this was just a good arrangement and was quite happy for the both of us. So now if Cathy and I just happen to spend the night together, which we do on occasion, I have the freedom to do that with my son being fully aware. It just makes things so much easier.
This did come out with a married friend of mine, and while she was somewhat accepting of this, she really did not understand this arrangement at all. To her way of thinking, Cathy and I should just become lesbians and have done with it. I tried to explain how that wasn’t our goal, rather that we were just enjoying ourselves as friends was all.
So, yes, I can see the difficulty that many people have with this, and it really is because of this need to quantify and label and to judge everything and everyone. All I can tell anyone who is reading this, is that there are a lot of happy bisexual women out there who are not lesbians and have no desire to be. So please, just a little bit more of an open mind? That would be nice.
