Learning About My Mom

I was twelve when I found out that my mom, who was divorced, was having a lesbian affair.

I came home one afternoon and my mom was in the kitchen getting herself cup of coffee and she was barefoot and had this short silky robe on. I asked her why she was in her robe, not expecting her to be at that time of day. She sort of hesitated and said how she and Sandra, who was like her best friend, had been naked and she figured that she had better put something on, knowing that I would be home soon. Then she told me that she and Sandra were just enjoying having a moment together as friends.

I was kind of surprised, but not shocked. I knew Sandra and liked her, and I just figured if that was what they wanted to do, it was okay with me. After that my mom and Sandra started being a little more open about what they were doing, and occasionally Sandra would spend the night and I knew of course that they slept in the same bed, and even showered together in the morning. For me and my family this just became normal.
