Love At First Sight
I was naïve, innocent to the ways of man, a baby, when I found myself in the grips of a man with only one thing on his mind. When he was done he asked me to stay, he wanted my body against his. Before sunup he woke me and made love to me. When my roommate found out where I was that night and who it was she told me I'd hit a home run.
Like I said, I was naïve. Who is he? This guy wasn't nobody, he was somebody and he didn't want me to go home. Dating isn't the right word, going out isn't the right word, taking me to his mother's birthday dinner is the right word. His mom asked me to sit beside her, small talk aside, 'what's your family in?' In what? What did that mean? He popped into the conversation just in time. She likes you.
The little problem of me being 18, being a small town freshman, of being from a family that wasn't 'in' anything, none of that mattered. Before I became a problem, or worse I got into a problem we went to see his uncle, Mr. Mayor. He wasn't really 'keen' on letting us get married, but he was going to Boston to work in the shipping division, and a wife would keep him out of trouble, so yes, if I was all that he said I was, get married, piss off the girls at the country club.
21 days from the fateful night we got married, 34 days later we landed in Boston, 340 days later #1 son was born. We need to talk in years, not days. Ten years to the day, at the country club, when talking to some young girl I can ask 'what's your family in?'
