Actually, my wife and I were ecstatic when we learned Obama cinched the nomination. I believe he will make an excellent president, purple lips or not.
I think the United States is going down hill no matter who is elected.
Agreed! This country is going nowhere quickly with gas prices the way they are and the economy. I bet you see brand new trucks and SUV's going for $10,000 soon! Nobody will be able to afford them! That's for sure.
Are you african american?
No sir, I am not. I am so white, I would be a calamity for any basket ball team.
We were also. I was worried that we might get a democrat for president, and now that Obama is the one running, I'm not the least bit concerned. I'm no fan of McCain but at least we won't get stuck with a liberal democrat.
You are an asshole, who cares what he looks like, I want a President with a BRAIN, not another hateful repukelican!!
AMEN!!!!!!!!
Amen to that. I want a president with a brain and some experience. Maybe in 2012. :(
No matter what happens this year, we'll get 4 years of incompetence. And that's still better than Bush.
I think Senator Obama will do a fine job as president. I am a registered Republican and have been for twenty years. But, my party has let me down in recent years. That is why Barack Obama will have my support this November.
Please, please don't vote for Obama. Don't support Obama - this nation needs a president who is more experienced. Obama cannot possibly handle foreign affairs, or straighted out the mess which is overseas. Obama's wife needs a lot of culturing to be the 1st lady. She's hard and tough with attitude. The first lady, IMO, needs to demonstrate femininity, charity, class. Neither one are ready for the most powerful position in the world. DON'T VOTE OBAMA!!!!
Remember, our greatest president, Abraham Lincoln, served only one term in congress years before he entered the White House (he had been voted out of office due to his opposition to the war with Mexico). Otherwise, his experience was local, much like Obama. And as far a first ladies are concerned, Mary Todd Lincoln was crazier than a shit house rat, with confederate sympathies, and everyone knew it; but other than causing relatively minor upsets in D.C., Lincoln's presidency was still pretty spectacular. But otherwise, I wouldn't sell an intelligent, capable woman like Michelle Obama short in the first lady department.
Yes, Comrade Obama will do a fine job. What could be smarter than taxing the large corporations and punishing them for making profits? Then we can pay more for goods and services and make less on investments (my union invests in Exxon/Mobil as do many).
Hopefully people are fed up enough with the Congress that we can vote in some fiscally responsible congress folk and keep Obama from enacting any of his ill-thought out ideas.
Yeah. I see a lot of similarities between Obama and Lincoln. Both were one term senators from Illinois and no one thought that either of them were up for the job at the time. Now Lincoln is held in regard as one of the greatest presidents this nation has ever had. I think, if Obama is elected, he will be the same. It's ironic that we'll have one of the best presidents (Obama) following one of the worst presidents (Bush) just like we had another of the best (Lincoln) following one of the worst (Buchanan). Obama '08!!! Yes We Can!!! (I'm white by the way).
No matter who becomes president, the USA is going down.
"Yeah. I see a lot of similarities between Obama and Lincoln"
Me too. So based on Lincoln's actions as president, here's some of what we can expect?
1) The proposed Crittenden Compromise would have at least postponed--and might have altogether avoided--the Civil War, and its failure was due primarily to Lincoln's stubborn inflexibility. His refusal to retreat was motivated as much by personal pride and concern for the survival of his party as by moral imperatives, and this refusal led to a war that cost 600,000 American lives. Despite his self-serving attempts to place all blame for the war on Southern shoulders, Lincoln himself must share the responsibility for bringing on the cataclysmic conflict.
2) No President, either before or after, has shown so callous a disregard for civil liberties as Abraham Lincoln. He suspended the writ of habeas corpus and ordered the arbitrary arrest of more than 15,000 Northern civilians, often with little or no cause. In ordering the arrest of Congressman Clement Vallandigham, an antiwar Democrat, Lincoln perpetrated one of the most infamous acts of political repression in American history. Lincoln himself admitted that he would "follow forms of law as far as convenient."
3) Lincoln's 1st actions relating to slavery were his moves to countermand the orders of 2 abolitionist generals who had freed slaves in some Union-occupied territory; Lincoln considered public opinion in the wavering border States to be more important than the continued enslavement of several hundred thousand human beings! Never a believer in true racial equality, Lincoln moved to free the slaves only after the overwhelming majority of his party had demanded it. Unlike the so-called "Radical" Republicans, Lincoln never considered the possibility that the free Negroes might some day function as full-fledged American citizens; Lincoln favored colonization in Central America as the "final solution" to the Negro problem.
4) Though it is easy to recognize qualities of greatness in Lincoln the man, this says nothing for Lincoln the politician who time and again chose expediency over principle. Nor does it atone for his record as a sloppy administrator, who was often unable to manage either Congress or his own Cabinet. It was only Lincoln's timely assassination that assured his place in history; he has been deified because of the tragic nature of his death, rather than for the accomplishments of his life. If he had lived to carry out his plans for Reconstruction, his name would be obscured today by the same cloud of partisan bickering that has blighted the memory of his successor, Andrew Johnson.
There's more - all you have to do is Google. It sounds like Lincoln had some of the same attributes we all dislike about George Bush and you're agreeing that Obama isn't any different.
So yes, I guess we're doomed no matter who wins.
ok, obama is not abraham lincoln, and this is not the 1800's. It's actually 2008 and we need a president who will turn this country around. I think Obama is a great candidate. And for those who think that the U.S. can only go down from here, I highly doubt anyone can screw up as bad as Bush.
Experience is important but i think that more progressive views and beliefs are more valuable. McCain isn't terrible but do you really want to have a president who supports a ridiculous war? One that wastes billions of dollars that our economy could really use right now? So, i think it's quite simple really. We need someone to change the coarse of our nation and I think that Obama is the most capable person to do so.
By the way I believe that Michelle Obama's strength is what would make her an awesome first lady.
I agree! why not go out with a bang! lol
