A Common Date Got Me Involved
I graduated from college in June of 2001. I turned 23 that June. I got a job with a small accounting firm. A client came by the offices, he was looking for help doing an estate inventory for which he was the executor. The topic of schools came up, class years. He was a graduate of the school I went to, he graduated the year I was born, he graduated the day I was born. Even if I was new, inexperienced he asked for me.
The estate wasn't all that big, but much bigger than the way I grew up, my parents were a welder and a part time florist. He guided me, reviewed what I worked on, taught me, corrected me. He was very experienced and he was kind and nice with me. Then September 11 happened, we were glued to the television all day. No one understood, at least I didn't. He did, he called it. That night he told me he didn't want me alone and he took me to his house.
His wife held dinner and she fixed up a room for me. Around midnight she woke me up and let me know he was asking for me. She left me with him, he talked about things, places, people I didn't know. He told me I was now in the world of knowing and not talking. He had to leave the next day, and he wanted me to stay with his wife until he came back or he called and told me it was okay for me to go back to my apartment.
That week everything was crazy, I stayed with his wife like he asked. When he returned he had me finish the inventory, but his mind was on other things. And he pushed himself on me at my apartment. His wife new, he had told her. She told me I was involved. For the next months he had me work on other projects, he paid the accounting firm, the accounting firm paid me. I only worked for him. And I was involved, sexually, emotionally.
This June the daughter that born to me will be 18. I work for him with his wife. We do forensic accounting, he is the brains. No matter how much he has taught me, he always knows more. In June it will be 20 years of getting involved. Hopefully our daughter will get off the fence and pick the one and only school she should go to. Of course she has been accepted.
