When we first moved into our town house we thought our dreams were coming true. My husband finally has a great job in a small town and all seemed to be going well. Our neighbor even seemed like a nice people UNTIL one day we were sitting in our livingroom and my husband walked into our bathroom. When you're in this bathroom you can smell EVERYTHING next door. He said he smelled marijuana. I asked him if he was sure and he said "Yes, it's very distinctive." I was irate!! He knocked on the neighbor's door and told him we could smell it. He got very paranoid and started asking if we were gonna tell the land lord and talking crap about "I've lived here a long time and I'm not saying I run this part of town or anything" Crap like that. We flat out told him what he does behind his doors is his business, but we don't wanna know about it and that includes smelling it! He swore to us it would never happen again. So for the last few weeks it's been ok except for when he smokes cigs we can smell that in the bathroom. Until tonight, I went in there and sure enough I smelled it again!!

Now, I shouldn't have to move. But if I tell our land lord about this or the police we have to worry about restribution. I wish and pray they'd just move away. I've been told CPS has been over there before as they have 2 kids and he's called the police on her before for her abusing him. What kind of family IS this??

So, I don't know what to do. Do I tell our land lord? Do I call the police? Do I move? Why should I move?? I pay my rent I am quiet and obey the law. I'm sure our landlord would much rather have us here than them. Plus they have this dog that they got recently that they let just run all over the place, it's constantly jumping on us, our guests it's just gotten to the point of I take it anymore.

It's just not right when law abiding people can't live in peace without being subjected to what their neighbors are doing.

On one hand, apartment dwellers simply have to take the bitter with the sweet. There isn't any guarantee you won't move from frying pan to fire, it might even be worse elsewhere.

You do have a big advantage with them 1) on the pot issue, and 2) about the dog running at large.
You have already delivered verbal warning about the pot, so at this point, send them a letter outlining the municipal codes for "animals at large" and the attending fine schedule, and your determination to follow through.
That letter, in itself, might give them ample warning and they probably won't dare try to "get revenge".

Will they think you are creeps? Yes.

Is there anything they can do about it? Yes, they can continue to break the law and attack your personal property, especially if you park your car out of your personal view in a parking lot, as in most apartment complexes. However, all it takes is one witness to the vandalism - who is willing to step forward - so I suppose it balances on your popularity with the rest of your neighbors. Is it the sort of apt. complex composed of a lot of young singles? If so, well, you're probably on your own.

If you do end up moving, do some recon on the 'hood before you plop down that $.

Jesus, what uptight priggs you both sound like!
Move to a gated community of Mormons or something like that if you don't like smelling marijuana.
Would you rather smell his shit?!
Millions of Americans use marijuana just as millions more drink to excess, have violent arguments with their spouses and children, have barking dogs, rants and raves when off their medication, etc.
Get used to it or move to a detached house on a lot of land.

I'm disgusted that you want to turn your neighbor in instead of trying to fix your bathroom so you can't smell your neighbors.
Maybe the exhaust system is faulty or inadequate.
Talk to the landlord about THAT.
Call in a handy friend to take a look at the problem.
Jesus, learn to live and let live or get away from the rest of us!

if all you have to worry about is what your neighbor is doign to relax behind his closed doors then you really have no business here.

Why dont you try smoking some yourself, sounds to me like you just need something to complain about. You live in an apartment not a detached house. mind your own business, don't you think if you can smell him then he can smell you??

I think you and the comment made by 1562 should move next door to eachother. I think I would take up smoking weed (lots of weed!)if I had to live next to a couple of RED ASSES like you. Shut your face and your windows.
