I have this dumbass neighbor who rides around with his kids (ages 11 & 7) in the back of the open cab of his pickup.
Not only around the neighborhood, but down a main road.
I would not say anything to him because he is a real hothead and I don't want to cause an arguement.

Would I be an asshole if I tipped off the police about his "habit"?

Mind your own business.
The laws become more onerous and complicated every damn day.
Anyone who turns in his neighbor to the injustice of the officers of the relm deserves to be treated as a traitor!

If you cared about his kids, you'd be doing him a favor. If you keep your mouth shut, he'll kill them and be doing all the rest of us a favor. Think of it as cleaning the gene pool.

Explain (in the back of the open cab of his pickup)

He has a pickup truck with a open back, without a cover.
A 4x4 with enough room to hold two people in the front and an open back to hold luggage, leaves, trash...whatever.

The kids basically sit on the wheel well on either side, so if it rains, they get wet. If he hits something...they fly out onto the pavement or under an oncoming vehicle.

The guy is an asshole, so I don't like him. He is a hothead so I don't want to cause trouble, but having children of my own I can't beleive this asshole would put his kids life in danger needlessly.

So how many times have you seen them fly out?

Probably not often enough.

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't situation". He's a jerk and the kids could be in harms way. Say someting and he'll go off on you, don't say anything and if someting happens, you'll feel guilty that you didn't at least try to intervine.

Go with your gut.

Alot of my neighbors carry their toddlers on their lap as the ride their lawn tractor. One hand on the steering wheel and one on the kid. One mistake and those kids will probably be chopped up. But hey, they're not my kids.
