I Now Realize That My College Lesbian Like Behavior Wasn't Real
I went to work after college I identified as lesbian and so did my sorority sister. We lived together, not in your face lesbians, but lesbians. One day I'm talking with my boss' boss and mention my 'partner'.
He looked at me, in my eyes. I tried to shift my gaze but I failed and he stared me down. "That's unhealthy", you don't have permission for that. My mind raced, 'from who?'. Still staring into my eyes he continued "God's plan won't work and He doesn't agree with you". "You think about your choices, think hard and long". "Your mission is one, to join with a man and deliver children into the world".
Boy, I was set back, upset really. Who is this man lecturing me? Even my mother didn't go that far. But his words would not leave my mind, like a broken record they played over and over again. My partner and I are both affected. At work I avoided him. I avoided talking about it.
Then he called me to his office, a man was there, a Minister. I sat through another lecture by him, supported by the Minister. Extracting a promise from me to give his words thought I went back to my desk. I was leaving the building and a voice called me. It was him again, "walk with me". We went a couple of blocks to a small church I was unaware of. We sat there for a long time, an hour. He stood and extended his hand, "come with me girl" and he walked me to the altar. "Tell God why you disobey".
Over the following months my partner and I realized that we were not really lesbians, best friends, sisters, but not lesbians.
