We live in a small town.
I have a kid and so I get to met a fair amount of others who come and go out of our house.
Now my kid is not a genius nor am I but . . . DAMN!!!!! If you are 11 and you are still in the 3rd. grade, and folks let you run around all summer, there is something wrong. Keep the kid home. He has two parents, bothers and sisters. Why not go to the library and get some tutoring done? It's free. The library is right by the our one and only grocery store.
The kid across the way, who 10 cannot master UNO. What? This is a different kid. He thinks China is underground. The mountains here are not white because of snow in winter, but because of chalk. He is not pulling my leg, he thinks these things.
Another is so starved to attention he asked the first day he came over, "If my mama throws me out, can I stay here?"
His shoes are full of holes and yet, this mother always has money for cigarettes.
All of them think reading for enjoyment is bad.
Their folks let play any video game or movie no matter the rating. I do not think there should be a hard and fast rule, but a straight forward, yes is wrong too.
All of them rap is cool. Which is fine, but not all of it.
None have a whole family. One of the parents is in rehab or jail.
And the fibs.
It all strikes me as sad.
