A new boy moved in next door. He appeared to my son's age, but I waited to ask him over. I wasn't sure if he was only visiting or if he was a total hell'en.

He's a tad funny looking, but so am I. However when he smiles . . .

I noticed he was liv"en with his grandparents. I did not inquire why, I thought that might be a bit odd, not knowing how the boy might take it.

On Father's day he comes over. I ask, "Did you have a nice Father's day?"

He says, "My dad's in jail."

Off and on he mentions going to visit his mom. I notice that often when says this is going to happen he is over at house. But I do not inquire about it. However I am sure that something must be up with her. After all, I am a mom, and I know I would not be without my boys by choice.

On one of visits he says, "Beer is not alcohol."

So then I ask, "If it is not alcohol, than why can a child not go to the story and buy it like you do soda and why in the grocery store is it with the liquor?" Part of me understands, I mean he could be water, or tea, or coffee and they are not grouped with the soda.

However I suspect it has more to do with the fact that at his house someone drinks beer when they are thirst, and not we do: punch, tea, soda, water, and juice.

My suspicion are confirmed, one day he informs me that he will be visiting his mother but only if the judge does not through her in jail.

I ask, "Why on earth would she be trying to do that?"

"Because she's mean and wants to get my mom."

"But I am sure did not just pull off of work one day. They must have thought she did something."

"She was drinking. But she only has a beer once a month now. And they think she was handling a gun."

I know it is wrong to speak poorly of any parent, because it is a reflection upon the child's soul, so I do not say, "Well I am sure she is shading the truth, two stay out of trouble, to look better in your eyes too." Nor do I say, "Now I know you tend to be a fibber, I am sure you picked up from somewhere."

I say, "Is the first time she's been in trouble with the law?"

"No."

I say, "That might have something to do with it too. I am sure that is she is no longer drinking and passes her tests proving it she will fine."

Thankfully she did not go into the poky and he was gone to her house for a couple of days. When he comes back I asked him what he did over there and did he have a good time?

He says, "Yah. We were going to the movies but, "Pirates" wasn't playing.

I check on-line. Yes it was.

Then he tells me how he spent most of his time over at his friends house because the person watching him was real mean. AKA his mom's new boy friend and he do not get along.

Over all his bright. Much more than he likes to play. I wish I know why it is only cool to be stupid at school?

His grandparent take OK care of him. He is feed, never locked out, clean, decent clothes. However they never really check on him to see what he is doing or where he is going. And he can be on the roof sword fighting. This is not an exaggeration. And they do not care how he does at school. They have enough money to send to baseball games but not enough for tutors. He's failing most of his classes and never does any homework. It's shame, he's sharp. Nor do they go attend his sporting events.
