Scared to Confront Them.

I'm a single parent with 2 daughters in elementary school. The neighbor kids beat up one of my daughters. Now I keep both in the house. They don't get to socialize anymore. They stay in and play with their dolls or games on the computer. My neighbor also throws trash on my porch. I'm thinking about getting a pit bull or rottweiller for protection. What should I do?

The principal should be notified about the assault. So should the police. They don't often do things right away but documentation is important. Children shouldn't have to suffer. I know, since I grew up fearing for my safety in a "bad" part of town. It will stay with your children all their lives unless you stand up to the bullies.

I think you should do all these things. Although I am not sure if they will do very much. However they might and you can say you tried.

Take notes on who you talked when and where and what was said.

Take notes on what was done.

I think getting a well trained large dog is a good idea. Well trained and large being key words and dog. Most normal people fear dogs.

Get a neighborhood group together.

Have your girls join the Campfire Girls. You could even start your own.

Join an active church with lots of youth activity.

Have play dates.
