We installed security cameras because of problems with a neighbor (another story to be told later).
You wouldn't believe what goes on in your yard when people think they're not being watched!
First of all, there's the really cool wildlife like hawks, foxes, raccoons, skunks, coyotes, snakes and various other things.
Then there's the neighbors' cats that are trying to eat the birds and other things in your yard, or taking a crap in your garden. Not so cool.
You can see dogs zipping in and out of your yard, pissing or crapping or sniffing at your front door. Not cool either.
BUT THE NEIGHBORS!!! OMG... we have an infrared camera that captures night images and ONE OF MY NEIGHBORS LURKS IN THE DARK AND TRIES TO LOOK IN OUR WINDOW, people have actually walked into our backyard when we aren't home and hung out, we caught a car burglar breaking into our car and were able to send photos to the police, there's people picking their noses or scratching their butts while standing at the front door waiting for me to answer. There's also the pedophile pool cleaner hired by the woman next door who sits in his car waiting for my son to go outside (so he can do... what?) , and we caught the neighbor's exterminator spraying chemicals into our yard (without our authorization).
I recommend that everyone who can afford one get a/several security camera/s. Then you'll have evidence of the criminal activities that your idiot/psycho neighbors are doing since you can capture still pix from the recording.
The court loved our photos. Especially the last ones we took. The neighbor got a several thousand dollar citation. Yay!

That is so cool. Too bad my neighbors can't be arrested just for being annoying assholes.
