The Palomino Club

My mother was the bookkeeper and the talent manager. She danced there when she was young until she got pregnant by a John. After that all dancers had to have cards. These cards were a calendar for the month, with a red X for their period week, a black X for their fertile week, blank for the other days when it was safe for them to entertain Johns. I still have my card from when I started dancing.

My mother got involved with Silvia, a girl from Puerto Rico. She lived with us in one of the apartments that Paco rented to the girls. My mother was a lesbian and she preferred hiring lesbians at the club. Lesbians didn't have boyfriends.

After Paco died he left me the club and the apartments. We closed The Palomino and sold the property where the club and the apartments stood. Paco had a gold mine with the property. The club paid the bills.
