The Girl From The Diner
I arrived in late December, it was cold and wet. The Sergeant at the gate checked my papers and directed me to the building across the base to report. I waited a few minutes and delivered my consignment. The Sergeant was kind enough to point me towards a motel about a mile away. I checked in and took a shower and went out again to find something to eat. The diner was empty except for me. A woman came in, came to my booth and offered herself. The price was less than I expected so I took her up on it, she stayed the night with me. No place to go, too cold and wet to be outside.
Hers eyes sunken, she was sickly, I felt bad for fucking her the night before. I had to leave, drive back and she asked if I'd take her with me. I agreed, I took her to a women's shelter and checked her in. The lady there told me she had been there before, a runaway but she was now over 18. I gave them some money and left.
She left soon after I dropped her off, I have no idea where she is. I think of her often, but not my problem. But maybe it is. I hope she's fine but I know she's not.
