The Plural Life Is My Lifestyle Choice

It's a numbers game. A female can only reproduce in series, one at a time. Males can reproduce across many females. This is observed in many species, and the human species is no exception. For most of the history of humankind plurality of females was the rule, it still is when we take serial monogamy into account.

So a case in point. My sister who is one year older is in a monogamous relationship. I on the other hand am in a poly relationship, three females and one male. Over the last four years my sister's monogamous husband has sired two children. Whereas during the same four years our husband has sired five children and one of his wives is currently carrying twins.

The case is clear, for males monogamy is a reproductive disadvantage, whereas for females it's indifferent. After having traveled extensively growing up, studied and associated with other plural families I cannot find an advantage for males to be or remain monogamous. My sister, a jealous ninny disagrees, only she should feed at the trough. My, our, husband enjoys a clear advantage in the game of life. What my sister sees as 'the' negative in our way of life is more females under the roof and refuses to accept that it is because there are more females under the roof that we are attracted to a plural life.

Hey, if you're happy and the other woman are happy, and you're husband is happy (he'd be crazy not to be), good for you! Lots of advantages to your arrangement: shared child care, shared resources, potential for multiple incomes to provide for one big family, etc. I would imagine that jealousy between wives is one of the biggest potential issues.
