My Fear Is Well Founded
Back in high school a girl in our school was r**ed in a parking garage after work. She wasn't my friend but I knew her and saw how it changed her. As I started to go out alone, to a job, to college I became more and more paranoid to the point of not going out, dropped out of college working as a counter server at a coffee shop, not Starbucks. My mother drove me to work and picked me up.
A friend of my mother's heard about my paranoia. He pushed the issue with me and more than less forced me to go with him and his daughter to a professional baseball game. Going to the bathroom was impossible, even with his daughter's help. It was a disaster.
On my fifth high school reunion, which my mother made me attend, I ran into the girl. She was a college graduate, open and friendly. Everything I never expected. My mother asked her to talk to me. In short she told me 'he r**ed her, she didn't have sex with him'. And, if she surrendered he won. Get on with your life.
I managed my way through an associates, got a job downtown, I was mugged on the street by a creep, he stole my bag. Don't expect me to go out alone. I don't care how statistically improbable it is.
