Lost Love

When I was 21, I was with an 18 year old woman.

She had an incredible innocence about her, which in this day and age is so rare. Honestly, I found it actually endearing and refreshing.

Things between us were going great, so I thought.

One day, completely out of left field though, she ended things. If she hadn't, I'm confident we'd still be together today.

I actually suspect her family pressured her to end things.

I adored her like no one else I'd ever known. Sadly, last I heard, she was married to another man.

Is it foolish that I'm still pining after all these years?

It might be foolish but it sounds like you loved her more than you've ever loved anyone so that is bound to leave an impression over the years. My girlfriend recently ended things with me and I cared for her like nobody else so it's totally knocked me for 6. Is there any way you can get back in contact with her? Perhaps you could meet up as friends and that might settle your feelings for her. You might realise then she wasn't as good as you thought and maybe you were in love with an idea.

Yup, it's foolish. Everyone has their "the one that got away" story. Move on (she has). Find happiness in people and things that are here now! The future is yours to create. Don't waste it on memory girls and fond remembrances.

No, of course not. But life must go on.

Agree with the last comment. Trying to contact her now will just make you sound desperate and creepy. Remember the good times and move on with your life. You might find someone even better.

I get it... but consider this:
Stop telling yourself a lie. She did not leave you because of her family. She may have faced pressure but the truth is she did not love you enough to endure that pressure. Had she, she'd still be there.
Look, i understand pinning her. I am a simp at heart. But you dodged a bullet. You would have married someone who just would not love you back the way you loved them. Be thankful, she was tested, and you escaped.

Agree with almost all the above.
I had a long distance and long time love relationship with a woman over a period of several years.
We're both married to others and do love our spouses but connected on so many levels as friends and at least on my part it was something more.
Eventually I'm coming to terms that it was a wonderful time and is now a great memory but I must live today's life today.
Be glad to have such great memories and move on indeed!
