Worried

The other day my son, age 12, called out to me for a towel from the bathroom. When I entered the bathroom he exited the shower. I handed him the towel and quickly left, but I was surprised to see that his penis looked the same as when he was 7, and he was hairless.

My husband passed away 2 years ago, so I don't know who to ask if this is normal. What say you?

Definitely not abnormal or unusual. Lots of boys don't grow hair or mature until 13 or 14. (PS, I raised 3 sons and two daughters)

You're a good mother to be concerned and looking out for your son. I know you're doing this because you want him to develop and be "normal" physiologically and emotionally.

It is not necessary to be fully developed, or even developing significantly, by the age of 12. He may (like many other children at that age) not have even begun puberty. Many fully grown and "normal" - even "large" - men, unless erect, do not display any significant size in their genitalia (showers vs. growers). Pretty sure I had nothing notable - or even noticeable - down there at that age. Give him a couple-few years. You'll both probably start to notice differences, including the size of his penis.

Good luck.

All depends on the child. When my oldest was almost 14, he was getting hairy and started to fill out down there. Before he turned 13, his little brother was hairy and had a penis that was as big, if not bigger than the 14 year old. I have read that it is not uncommon for a younger boy to outgrow an older brother. I know that mine did exactly that with a big growth spurt, but it all depends. Keep an eye on his development he just may be a late bloomer. "Sarah""

Perfectly normal. All people develop at different rates. Nothing is wrong. You sound like an excellent mother.

Most boys don’t see any changes till 13. How hairy was his dad down there and how big was his dads penis? I started getting pubes at 13 but my penis and testicles didn’t start to get bigger till I was 14. Took till I was 18 to fully grow. I got a whole inch from 17 to 18. Give it time it will come

I didn't start getting any pubic hair till 13. I was starting to get horny and masturbating some, but nothing came out when I climaxed. A friend of mine, on the other hand, was only 12 and he already had hair. He'd talk about girls all the time, and one time we found some old copies of Hustler magazine and started jerking off. His cock was a lot bigger than mine and when he came, he shot all over the place. He made fun of me a little because I was younger than he was, and still couldn't come. That all changed in the next year. I grew hair, started coming, and ended up with a dick at least as big as his. Like others here have said, it just takes longer with some.
