Hi! I need some good advice. I'm about to leave for college and I wonder if now is a good time to tell my parents (mom and stepdad, dad & stepmom) that I am a lesbian. Actually, I think that my stepmom suspects because she walked in on me and my girlfriend "Stephanie" once. We had just stopped kissing right before the door opened, so I think we looked pretty guilty. But "Maggie", my stepmom has never said anything to me about it. So maybe she doesn't know. But "Stephanie" has been out to her parents nearly this whole year and she wants everyone to know that we are together.

I kinda want to tell my parents before I leave for college because then they'll have until Thanksgiving to get over it if they are upset. The only disadvantage I see is that my mom has been looking forward to "The Big Day" for so long. She can't wait to drive me to campus and help me move into the residence hall. I'm worried coming out will ruin it for her. "Stephanie" and I managed to get assigned to the same room so we are planning to move the beds together and all. We could do it after my parents leave, but that seems like lying. What should I do?

be honest even if the consequences are bad don't lie to your parents. They are probably looking forward to the day you get married even more than the day you go to college come out and confess. Better now then later. It will be easier now than it will be later.

Leave it alone; your finally moving out of the house and under your own roof. There might be a time down the line when you too will feel they need to know but it doesn't sound like this is it. There's a saying; you don't know a person till you live with them; so no one knows how long this relationship will even last.

Go ahead, tell them. You'll feel alot better about yourself and if they have any compassion at all and love you they will support you and have a lot of respect for you for being honest with them and yourself. It will take a huge load off your mind either way. If they can't handle it,they have themselves to blame. Be true to thine ownself!!! Good Luck and i'm so happy for you. Be free and play as hard as you work.

Whether or not your current relationship lasts shouldn't have any bearing on whether or not you come out. Come out for yourself or stay closeted for yourself.

Personally, I got "outed" midway through my first semester in college when my parents came to Parents weekend after talling me that they weren't going to. It was supposed to be a fun surprise. Instead, they walked into my dorm room with the huge "BGALA" poster over my bed and pictures of me in drag. As I sat for 3 miserable hours in a Holiday Inn trying to stop my mother's sobbing, I really wished I had told them before I left in August.

Life in the age of "reality TV".... Why complicate the already complicated? Novel Idea: Keep your private life private.

I've known my son was gay ever since he was five and demanded 3 Barbie dolls with every single outfit for his birthday. He's 23 now and living with "a friend". I'm still waiting for him to "come out".
