I Married My Loser Husband
I went to work for a Big Four accounting firm after college. My dream job, I sat and passed my CPA exams the first time. My college friend, who didn't get a job on graduation, was working for a car dealership in their purchasing department. My parents, friends, siblings were dead set against me 'settling'. Focus on single upcoming men at work.
A new friend at work invited me to join her and her boyfriend, a lawyer, for dinner so I could meet his friend. She didn't tell me anything about her boyfriend and his friend. I'm afraid I wasn't able to disguise my feelings. I was laughed at. I was embarrassed. That night I called my friend, the 'loser'.
He came over, told me that I had no reason to like or date any man. It was their burden, not mine. He was, how do I say it, sure of himself, and he let me know I could call and rely on him. I gave my virginity to him. Whose business was it if I settled.
We got close, sexually, it was a crazy time. If he wanted sex, I wanted sex. We ran away and got married, we didn't tell anyone until I was 12 weeks pregnant. I made twice what he did, but I didn't care. He inherited some money when his grandmother died, we bought our house. Nothing my family or coworkers thought was appropriate, but it was our house.
A year later my friend at work broke up with her boyfriend. She felt excluded by his family, she told me his sister accused her of stealing her brother.
It's been ten years now, I have a boy and a girl. She is my best friend. My husband is the manager of an auto parts store. I won't say my husband is perfect, he's got his things. In bed, he's more than I can handle. Between work, the house, the kids I need a break. If, and he won't admit it, he finds time to make my friend happy, that's between them. I really don't mind.
