Miss Eversole
We all sat quietly, waiting. The headmistress came in, everyone stood and then sat down. She announced that Miss Eversole was leaving the school, in fact she had already left. She dismissed the student body but held me back.
In her office she confronted me, it was because of me that Miss Eversole was gone, girls with money who thought they could get away with anything. She knew girls like me. She hated me, she hated my father.
What good would it do, Miss Eversole kissed me, before I kissed her back. One more semester and I would be gone, away from this school, away from the headmistress. But first I had to find out where Miss Eversole had gone.
I was almost finished with college when she stood there, waiting for me. It was hard to breathe, my heart raced, then I screamed and ran into her arms. If ever a girl loved, then it was she I loved.
My father listened. He was not in the mind to agree. I told him, that afternoon like I did the day Miss Eversole and I were found, I loved her. And if he loved me, he would protect her like he did me. He must not let us be torn away from each other again.
We were then sent to Bern, me to school, more school. Miss Eversole to look after me. Out of site out of mind. We set up house in a nice apartment, I registered for the school.
At night after we had our supper, I bathed, and she prepared for bed. Her goodnight kiss, her warm lips on mine, her hand gently pressing on my breast. She then retired to her room.
And so it went, day after day, night after night. Until one night when I begged her to stay with me. My father would do nothing, he would protect her. She wanted to believe, but already once she had been torn away from me.
The year passed, I had my life at school. I met Louise and found myself spending time with her. Miss Eversole was accommodating, what a nice girl she said. And on the night Louise came to stay with me, Miss Eversole prepared her for bed with me.
So long ago, it is a world and a half century away. Miss Eversole kept her promise to my father and she kept me company these many years. Louise, she and I found a life together. But now, today Miss Eversole has left me again.
A truer love a girl never had.
