Finder's Keepers

I had a bad confrontation with my boss, the office manager. She is in her fifties, divorced for most of her adult life. The general opinion of her is that she is a frustrated bitch. She yelled at me for a report she didn't like, I yelled back and called her a bitch and walked off telling her to do it herself. She told me to take a breather and take a walk. That's why I was walking on the trail that afternoon.

I was upset, I knew I was getting fired. I didn't pay attention and twisted my ankle on the curb. Broke it actually. It broke me, I laid on the ground crying. I looked up and a man looked down on me. I thought he said 'get up bitch', he had said 'can you get up?' He leaned down and gave me a hand. Once up on one foot he scooped me up and carried me to a bench. He got on his knee and he told me to relax. I thought he called me a bitch, he said 'your ankle is broken, you can't walk on it. I don't know why I was hearing things.

After examining me further he found a blood patch on my head, he got worried and called 911. He rode in the ambulance with me. I heard him giving orders about the injury to my head. I went in for a scan, and was diagnosed with a concussion. After I was treated and my ankle stabilized he excused himself and said he would be back the next morning and take me home.

I had no idea what his name was, or what he did for a living. I slept poorly with wild dreams of being in dangerous places. He came around ten, I was released in his care. He took me to his house, and put me to bed. I learned he was an intern in internal medicine. He told me he found me and it was finder's keepers. And kept me at his house because of the concussion. He was worried that I kept hearing him say 'bitch'.

Once I was well and walking in a boot I went back to work. He had called them, I guess I told him where I worked. My coworkers, and my boss, were happy to see me. They were worried when I disappeared until he called. I went back to work, with headaches from time to time. He drove me to work and picked me up. He had emptied my apartment and he had me living with him.

He worked long hours once I was able to drive myself. I had a key and I had duties. I was 'living' with him. Little by little I lost my worry and I gave myself to my new situation. Eventually I moved into his room with him, where I am now.
