Ten Years Is A Long Time But Now I'm Dry
Some friends and me went to a club in uptown. Everyone danced until we all sat down one by one. It was going to close and this girl I danced with came over and asked me if I wanted to go home with her. She was hot, but it was dark and she was sweaty and I was horny and I said I would go. The sex was good, good enough. I woke up in a strange bed, again.
And that was my problem, different girls, different clubs. One night stands, hangovers, broke, getting older. My boss gave me an ultimatum. If I showed up hungover one more time my job was gone. I agreed to get therapy, dry out. I entered into the center in August. Christmas came and I went to see my mom.
My mom had some people over and I woke up Christmas morning in bed, this time with a man I didn't know. I returned to the center in January. Really dried out. I went to see an old friend in Marbella. She said I could stay, no girlfriends, no boyfriends.
I had some j*welry of my grandmother's. I sold it and quit my job.
I'm an addict, with unresolved sexual issues because of my Dad. Up in the mountains, in a small town I finished drying out after ten years. I returned home for my father's funeral and met the man I's slept with the last time I was in town.
He wasn't what I remembered. A high school teacher, divorced with two teen age sons. I dated him and got married. One day at a time, one day at a time.
