My True Love Story

As a grad student I went on a six week cruise to find and catalogue this family of Orcas. It was scientific, not tourist stuff. We followed and documented, twenty four seven. Aboard the vessel was an Oceanography PhD candidate, 28, very very fine. She had that look, and I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. Her job was recording and documenting the environmental info.

We became friends, played cards, talked. One night she asked if I wanted to come sleep with her. I didn't know what to say. She touched my hand and asked me to confirm to her that I did like girls. We slept together, in her arms, she gently ran her hands over me, to confirm I was a girl. So you know where she touched. She let me confirm she was a girl.

Over the next week we made love, easy gentle love. We did our jobs, other members of the cruise found each other too. After we got back and returned to our schools to write up our reports. We stayed in touch and she helped me with my paper. At the end of the semester she invited me to San Diego. We spent long days on the beach, or hiking in the mountains. She asked me to come live with her once I got my Masters.

We live in Hawaii where she is doing a postdoc. I'm working as a science teacher. We had this one picture I took of the Orcas carved into wood by this incredible artist, as a reminder of where we met. One day, just to be different, we are planning to climb Kilimanjaro, because it's there, and it's not the ocean.
