I Wouldn't Have Thought Of It But Now I Know Better
A little bit about my neighbor. He is a widower, and looks the part. We had a storm, a real storm, and it knocked a tree down in his yard, it fell over on our roof, a large limb went right through and into our bathroom. That's how we got to know him, I mean other than acknowledging and waving from time to time.
The storm left a lot of damage and the people who were to come to and take the tree down and off our roof were going to take a few days. He offered us his spare bedroom, and bath, until we could get our roof fixed. We thought about it for a minute and really under the circumstances didn't have much of a choice so we accepted.
We had to talk, or really listen, while he told us stories of his past. He also told us how things got done and how to take care of things and all that. When we cooked he told us how to do it, fust follow his directions and things would come out all right. He knew a lot about everything, including 'sexual relations'. He told us, or really me, that if I got cold at night I was welcome to come over and get warm in his bed at night. Maybe I would wake up and find out what I was missing.
We talked about it and I slipped into his bed and he didn't take much time to get things going and when he was done I was out of breath wondering what had taken so long. I went back and told her to think about it twice, but if she got cold she needed to go over and find out she could go and see what she was missing.
The tree people took a week to get there and the roof people another week. By then there was a lot of coming and going between his room and where we were sleeping. It's not so much that we got cold at night, it's that once you try that you can't seem to get enough. I couldn't get enough. She couldn't get enough. It's not that we had never had any, but we were young and had never been in the hands of an experienced man like that.
We listened to his stories, he had an interesting life. Better than anyone we had ever met. And him telling us how to fix the omelet taught us how to make an omelet, not the other way around. When our roof was fixed and the dry wall put back up, he went over to inspect it all before we gave the go ahead.
He put a door between the fence between his place and ours and now the going back and forth is between our house and his. The back door is always open and sometimes it gets cold at night, and sometimes it's just that I need to hear his whispers. One day maybe, when I'm a bit older I might have a man of my own to take care of, but what I'm scared of is that he will know that I have experience, experiences that can only come from being there with another man. I don't want to think that I am spoiled but I am, and when sometimes when it's time to gather my things and walk back to my bed I lay at night and tell her she needs to go, I really don't mind at all.
