She Did Care For Me
I was a studious but quiet child. I didn't start coming into my own until I went to college. By the time I graduated I was butch with a girlfriend. Life away from college put me in the male dominated world of business. At my work I met Cecily, a very attractive and fun girl. I was sure she was one of us, but she had a boyfriend.
We became friends and I let her know I found her attractive. She didn't 'bolt', she went right to her boyfriend and asked him what she should do. He told her we should be office friends, but keep her distance. The problem for me us that I couldn't respect that. I wanted her to be my girlfriend and I just couldn't 'keep my distance'. I kissed her in the bathroom and she didn't bolt.
Two more kisses later and she cheated on her boyfriend. I had won, but it felt bad. I convinced her to tell her boyfriend, if she wanted I would go with her. He took it, bad. I had never been talked to like he talked to me. He left telling her to stop seeing me and move in with him. She moved in. She told me she couldn't see me.
I missed her, but I understood.
A year later, I had moved on, Cecily showed up at my apartment without notice. She told me she had a girl now and named her after me. She kissed me, and said goodbye, leaving the birth announcement in my hand. Vivian Anne, 6lbs 9 oz, 21 inches long.
