I was brought up as a strict Catholic, went to a convent etc etc. I married a moslem guy, he's not very religious and didn't put any pressure on me. After many years of living in Turkiye with my husband and family , I became moslem too. Why? Actually so that when I die I can be buried near my husband and to save our children hassle at that awful time. The paperwork is horrendous here. Sometimes I feel bad about becoming a moslem.I still pray and go to church when I can.I pray with moslems too when necessary. I find religions very cruel - I don't think God is cruel.I'm 54 yrs old. I guess it's not a crime to do what I've done. I hope I don't go to hell.

You won't go to hell for supporting your family. It's all the same God and he/she appreciates your support. You might want to learn to spell the name of your religion though - it's "Muslim". That may save you some trouble later on.

All religions say "If you are not one of us you will go to hell" so it seems that you will be joining everyone else in the world no matter which religion you choose!

Remember that religion is the most destructive disease known to mankind.

Jesus Christ says that He is the only way to Heaven (John 14:6). It is true that the God of both Christians and Muslims can be traced back to the same, however they both tell different things. For instance, Muslims deny the deity of Christ. Also, the thing that distinguishes Christ as God from other religions is that Christ died for our sins and then rose from the dead. In the Muslim religion, you must "work" your way into salvation. Christ has already done the work, all we need to do is accept it.

We didn't tell Christ to die for our sins. Besides, that sounds stupid.

So you're saying that if you're Christian, you're lazy because you waon't work for salvation and since Christ has already guaranteed your salvation, your life is pointless?

Christians are lazy and lead pointless lives? That's not very nice.

Religion itself is a guideline to the straight and narrow. This coming from someone with 8 years of Catholic school, I do not believe in the church. The Catholic church has been a money making, child molesting, reign of terror for over 2000 years. I do believe in God. I will not call myself a Catholic or Christian because the bible was written by man. I follow the 10 commandments because it is how you can remain a good person. Heaven may not exist in the form we have been taught...I believe it is taught to us to help us cope with death.

I'm sorry if you took this the wrong way. Not once though did I say a Christian was lazy and lived a pointless life.

What I am saying though is "But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's grace that you have been saved!)" Ephesians 2:4-5 NLT. Therefore, it is not that a human is lazy, but just incapable of having eternal life without Christ because we are spiritually dead without him.

Also, Colossians 1:16 says "for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth...Everything was created through him and for him." The "him" being Jesus Christ. Therefore, the point of human life is to glorify Christ. And here, I'm not talking about standing on the street corner yelling about Jesus, but about through the way we live our lives, reflecting who He is.

Thank you for expressing your concerns with what I said earlier, I did not mean for it to sound the way it did to you.

Actually, I did understand what you originally said. You were suggesting that following Christ was a sure path to eternal redemption where being Muslim is not. I knew that and was just messing with you. I take issue with people who quote scripture to make their point rather than formulate a convincing argument from their heart. That's what we were taught to do in seminary (speak from the heart).

The original poster wasn't so much interested in picking the best religion - they wanted to know if they were wrong in supporting their family. I think they'll be fine.

I apologize if my attempt to get you to speak in your own words offended you. Thank you for your civil reply. I knew that wasn't what you meant.

The Muslims do have a lot in common with Christians. One of the differences is where Christians believe that Christ was the son of God, and Muslims believe in Jesus but that he was a prophet. The Muslim religion is not meant to be the millitant mess that the terrorists make it.

Don't worry, there is no god, heaven or hell in my opinion.
When you die, you are absolutely dead. You are going anywhere except 6 feet under and your body rots and only your bones remain.

The way I look at it, if a God can send you to hell for an eternity of damnation and hellfire for being an all-around good person, but worshipping the wrong religion...the He/She is no god, and you need not worry.

Also remember a quote said by someone that had to be very wise, but no one seems to know the name of the person who said it...it follows: "There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the only wrong one is the one circling the base telling the others that they are wrong."

God is imaginary.
