I'm an older (42) male that's been out of the dating scene for too long. I've met this very nice waitress that's half my age and I would like to ask her out.
Can you give me some pointers? There's also a race difference - I'm white, she's black. Do you think that may be an issue?
Also, this is not a sexual quest or midlife crisis. I would just like to get to know her, then see where it goes from there.
Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks!

People are SO unhelpful (not to mention racist)!

Here are my tips for you:
- start small maybe have a coffee together or buy her a little cup cake as a gift;
- if there is a party or a game or some kind of thing to 'do' then ask her along - it takes the pressure off it being a one on one date
- you need to find out if you have any common interests - books, music, travel etc.

If you don't find you have anything in common but you're still into her - just say - "hey there's a good movie that i've been meaning to see would you like to join me"

i don't know much about the race issue as things are very different here in australia. but i would say that if there is enough feeling between you - you can always overcome it

hey there..

as an older individual like yourself (same age as you) with the same situation as you only mine is reverse (younger woman as like yours only she was white), i understand where your coming from. recently i had a similar experience like yours. best advice i could give is the following. don't rush it. relax, let it develop naturally. also, be humorous, or show you have nice sense of humor. that will help her to relax with you and feel more comfortable as well. go slowly..that is the key. slowly. as the previous responder said, when you get to the point where you sense both of you are comfortable with each other, then ask her for coffee or something else sinse she probably deals with coffee or that type during her time working. just pleasant relaxing conversation. if all goes well take it from there. i must say, don't rush into anything, it will only make her uncomfortable. the key is for her to feel the opposite with you. remember you have a lot on your side. you just have to show her that. best of luck to you..
